Game Plan

This is Mark Sanchez's 13th college start but the playcalling looks like he is making his first start. Why is USC so afraid to throw downfield? If it does not have confidence in Sanchez, then replace him. Otherwise, open up the offense.

Stupid question -- "afraid" to throw downfield? Stanford blitzes a lot. It takes time for receivers to get downfield. Blitzes give the quarterback *less* time to throw. Thus downfield passing is not a good strategy against a team that runs a lot of blitzes.
