No On No. 11
Before the season defensive end Clay Matthews asked if he could wear No. 11 this season but Matt Leinart refused to allow him to bring the number out of retirement. Remember, Darnell Bing wore No. 20 for three years, which is Mike Garrett's retired number.

I am actually with Leinart on this one. Who the hell does Matthews think he is to wear a retired number? Glad Leinart refused Matthews' ridiculous request.
Shouldn't Scott have posted this non-story in August?
Matthews asked. Leinart said no. Matthews hasn't said a thing about it. Wolf reports it (three months later).
The real mystery is how will sleuthing Scott manage to tie this into the "Joe McKnight/Washington State sideline" caper that is gripping California and causing financial mayhem?
Leinart's number has only been retired a few years; Garrett's was, what, decades before Bing wore it? Come on; it's not like Leinart is being completely unreasonable here.
Also, Leinart is the best thing that ever happened to USC football. Just putting that out there.
Until Clay can have 11 women at a time on his arm like Matt, then he is stuck wearing #47. Don't hate Matt hate the game!
I asked for it as well, but I guess "Scoop" Scott has not dug it up yet.
My wife also drug me to the Washington St. game cause she wanted to "keep me out of trouble". She covered up for me by telling everyone I liked football. Truth be known, she only did it cause I am her hottest husband ever.
Favoritism sucks.
I'm actually disappointed in Matthews for asking.
Scott's intended reaction = Leinart is a jerk
Fans' actual reaction = So what and c'mon, Clay... really?
Scott = Fail
This whole story sounds fishy, like 3 month old fish. Wouldn't the request probably go through Pete? Wouldn't Pete also probably want to protect the legacy of his greatest team ever? Was it really Matt's sole decision? Did this request even get to Matt, or was Clay simply told by the staff that Matt said no? Did Clay really even make a serious request, or was it just an inquiry?
I simply don't believe this story as written. It doesn't sound like Clay. Scott, please name sources.
Damn...does that mean I can't wear my #11 jersey to games anymore?
I requested wearing a soccer jersey and the right to leer at opposing team's cheerleaders but they said they only give permission to one individual a year...
Gee Scott, do you have anything else as important to post, what a non-story!
You know if Clay had asked for #3, Keyshawn would have said yes.
Link? Proof?... source?.. I'll call BS.. just like Sarah Palin didn't know Africa was a continent....riiiiiiight
slow day on TMZ to find dirt on Leinart, so he just makes it up.....addicted to Matt.. needs his fix
I'm actually disappointed in Matthews for asking
No kidding ! Make your own mark in the game. Leinart had ever right to tell this walkon parttime starter 'no'. CM is playing well but obviously is some kind of meathead.
