Nothing Beats A Good Rivalry

| | Comments (11) |

Let's hope Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh fails to land the Raiders job (or any other job) after the season because he and Pete Carroll are quickly becoming the best rivalry in the Pac-10.
Harbaugh's provided the necessary ingredients for a good rivalry: Some smack talk (saying Carroll would leave for the NFL) and backing it up (the upset victory last year). The gamesmanship at the conclusion of Saturday's contest showed they like to get under each other's skin.
And it's needed in the moribund Pac-10. Carroll's had his own moments over the years, having Mike McDonald throw a TD pass against Arkansas with a 63-17 lead in 2005 and putting C.J. Gable in to score a TD against Washington State with a 62-0 lead this year. Yes, Broderick Green was tired but D.J. Shoemate and Adam Goodman were available.

Pete should have responded to that final TD by throwing the challenge flag!

I have to agree. I find Harbaugh moderately threatening. I felt a little extra sense of excitement last night during the game. The Pac-10 needs some more up and comers, and Harbaugh appears to fit the bill that Neuheisel cannot.

The Carroll - Harbaugh exchange at the end of the game was also less than friendly. The two never made eye contact and got just close enough to tap each other.

Neuheisel actually spotted Harbaugh half his winnings last night by going for the late TD and assuring him the points.

Harbaugh would be a fun coach to play for. Did anyone else notice him last night marking the spot of the ball when his receiver went out of bounds right at the first down marker and making the motion for first down? Win or lose, well mostly lose, those Stanford kids are having fun. He'll find some talented, smart kids that want to have fun.

Stanford-USC is 100+ year rivalry. Why won't Scott understand this simple obvious point. These teams have never liked each other.
The sad part is that had Pete competed for the entire game, the final score would have been more like 63-3. He personally left 14 points on the field for no reason. Then he plays the little time out game at the end with Harbaugh.
Harbaugh is one of the true gamers and is competing. Hopefully, Pete starts to compete again.

Why Scott? The two of them can continue their respective rivalry in San Francisco and Oakland.
