USC's defense own three shutouts this season. I've been reminded by ESPN analyst Beano Cook, Army had five shutouts in 1943 and 1947. That's something to shoot for in the final four games.

Well you can count UCLA as a lock for shutout.

Something else you and Beano have in common is a Song Girl obsession. Except that Beano's isn't creepy like yours is.

Between ND and UCLA they could tie the record...
A distiction like that could carry them up the rankings too. My guess is the Defense is pretty good if it hasn't happened in 60+ years of CFB.

That is a very cool and attainable stat. And, just what we need, some hype for this incredible defense.

Didn't the team USC played in the Rose Bowl after the 1938 season, Duke, go the entire regular season without allowing a single point! I'm sure Duke played more than 5 games that regular season. Duke was less than 2 minutes from not allowing a single point all year INCLUDING the Rose Bowl when USC 4th string QB Doyle Nave to hit second teamer Al Krueger for a 19 yard TD pass & the 7-3 victory.
Not to be out done, the 1939 USC team beat Tennessee in the Rose Bowl. That Tennessee team had gone the whole season without anyone scoring on their defense until USC put 14 on them to win the game, by shutting the Volunteers out!!! THAT 1939 USC team had a pretty good defense itself. The Rose Bowl was their 6th shutout of the 10 games they played. Good thing the defense was that good (allowing only 33 points all year) because even though they shutout UCLA, they also couldn't score that game making it, the 6th game in the series, the only 0-0 tie 0f the 77 played to date.
