A look at the USC-Stanford game film showed the Trojans had 11 men on the field when they called timeout. Pete Carroll said he called the timeout because there were 10 men on the field. Also, Brian Cushing and Rey Maualuga were on the field for the final three plays, blitzing the first two and dropping into coverage on the last play.
Like we said, the Carroll-Jim Harbaugh rivalry is a beautiful thing.

Something doesn't add up here. In the Daily News, Scott reported that Carroll called timeout because there were only 10 players. Yet, in the LA Times, the reason for the timeout was that there were 12 players on the field. ("Carroll said he called a timeout with three seconds left because the Trojans had too many players on the field when Stanford lined up for a field goal. The Cardinal then executed a pass play for a touchdown.") http://www.latimes.com/sports/college/usc/la-sp-uscfyi17-2008nov17,0,6090424.story
Either Scott or Gary Klein the LA Times heard the quote wrong, or Carroll provided two different reasons.
Moreover, the film now shows that there was 11 players. Hmmm, maybe Coach Carroll called timout to ice the Stanford kicker as further gamesmanship? That backfired, as Harbaugh brought out the offense, scored a 20-yd+ TD, and covered the point spread.
Of course, they're funny as hell. They respect each other though I am sure they both think each other is a bit too big for his britches. They also both think the other guy has some a$$hole in him, which is also probably true. Doesn't hurt that Harbaugh probably thinks he's the better coach and that PC probably thinks Harbaugh is a desperate crackpot with an ego problem who got lucky once.
I'm just surprised Scott can count to 11, had to take your shoe off for that one, eh Wolfie ?
Carroll had done Harbaugh enough favors by not letting Mitch Mustain air any deep passes out.
