Why?
In an effort to preserve the shutout, Pete Carroll inserted Brian Cushing into the game on a fourth-and-1 play with the Trojans leading 49-0. Considering the injuries Cushing's carried recently (hand, ankle, shoulder) and that he needed help getting his pads off last week, it seemed a superfluous action in a meaningless part of the game.

Simple, Lead by example. Lots of underclassmen and freshmen playing on the second half.
Scott if they had not shut them out you would have mocked them for letting Washington score? Please go away.
"WAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
Go cry to your mom, Scott Wolf.
It'd be nice to see a little more positivity in your blog posts. But I guess your attitude is just a reflection on your own life.
I could not agree with TrojanFoeLife more....a team is only as good as it's weakest and least experienced players and how do they get better?..They learn from their veterans..If Pete Carroll followed your advice and took heart to your comments...USC would be 0-8 just like Washington.
Scott,
I think you should check your facts before you post something like this because you're a professional. As a USC fan, I was listening to the radio during the game and heard the commentator say that Brian Cushing had to come in because another player was injured on the previous play. They either had to call a timeout or insert Cushing. I don't think Pete did it on purpose to preserve the shut out. I may not be 100% correct on this but at least I won't rush to judgement before knowing the facts.
Scott if you were watching the game instead of trying to get a picture with the Washington cheerleaders you would have seen the linebacker run off the field with an injury forcing Cushing to run into the game.
Don't let the facts get in the way of the story.
Had they allowed Washington to score you would have dropped the Trojans out of the top 10! You damn well know it too SW!
Scott that is totally unfair. You missed it, clearly.
Cushing was rushed in for one play because a player had been shaken up or injured, and had gestured to come off the field.
This happened right in front of me.
Had you asked Carroll or Holt, I am sure you could have had an answer instead of jumping to salacious conclusions.
It was the third down play and he came out for the 4th down play.
Why wouldn't he stay in if you were right?
Scott,
You are the closest to the action and yet you didn't even notice the key facts of what happened.
1) There was an injury
2) They ran Cushing on because he was ready to go and they didn't need to call a timeout.
3) It was 3rd down that Cush was in.
4) He went right off on the next down, which contrary to your "theory", was 4th down and UW was going for it.
Why do you not watch the game? Why do you splat irresponsible falsehoods over the internet that will serve as fodder for other outlets? Are you a reporter or a gossip columnist?
Not too pile on, but watching the play develop, Cush actually had his helmet off, was standing on the sideline and saw, I beleive Morgan limping off. He threw his helmet on, ran by Holt turned and yelled something. Obviously, Cush wanted back in the game, he a beast and after the play ended, he was pulled right back off the field. Sorry Scott, but true fans watch the game.
