Answer Tuesday (Football Forum, Part 3)
What about the excesses of the bowls?
Q: It's been said by another local newspaper reporter that if Stan Hasiak's commitment to UCLA begins to waiver they have an "ace in the hole" that will keep him from breaking away. Any idea what their angle is and if there's any way at all that it's not ethically questionable?
A: I answered this question in the previous answer post. If anyone has the link, send it to me.
Q: I am curious about your thought of Dan Wetzel's recent Yahoo! sports column on the bowls. Are his observation about how the bowl committees treat press people spot on, exaggerated, or made up? Do you find it funny that ESPN is so invested in the current system, but has its on-air personalities calling for a playoff like a broken record? What is the Wolf Plan to get out of the bowl mess and into a playoff? That's three questions I know, but the general question is "what are your thoughts about the article?"Here's the column: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=dw-bowls121808
A: I read the column. And received the massive Sugar Bowl book too! The bowls are good examples of excesses in college sports. The money they spend is astounding. And I think they are a serious impediment to a playoff system. They don't want to spoil a good thing they have going. I know the Rose Bowl's in no hurry to lose its Big Ten-Pac 10 matchup for a playoff. Or the Sugar Bowl, which gets an SEC team every year along with it's loyal following.
Q: What does the scout think of USC vs Penn State?
A: I have not asked yet. However, I hear Penn State's schemes are not complicated, they just do them well.

Here is the 23rd set as I wind closer to the end:
The other day during the basketball chat you mentioned UCLA had an "ace in the hole" with Hasiak. What did you mean? IS he simply solid on UCLA or does UCLA have something to lure him if he starts to reconsider?
I was waiting for someone to ask this question, but I cannot get into it at this point. I will when the time comes, but not at this point. Sorry, but let me just say UCLA has a plan to keep Hasiak on board if he begins to waver big time.
Yes, it is ethically questionable...a villa for his parents in San Diego.
