ESPN Attack
ESPN NFL analyst Mark Schlereth went off on Reggie Bush tonight after an OT loss to the Chicago Bears.
``Reggie Bush is not a good football player,'' Schlereth said.
UPDATED: Schlereth went even further.
``To me right now, you look at him compared to Pierre Thomas, Pierre Thomas is so much better.
``He's a liability in blitz pickup. He is a liability getting those tough, inside yards.
``Reggie Bush will always decide to step out of bounds.''

Dude dates a sex-tape legend. What does that tell ya about him? Plus, he could possible bring more harm to the SC program than the memory of Vince Young on fourth and long. I'm speaking of Bush, by the way, not Schlereth.
Who gives a damn about the league? He was an incredible player at USC - he can go sell pencils at a bus stop now for all I care.
I'm sorry isn't this the Reggie Bush that just a few weeks before being injured ran back 2 returns (almost 3) touchdowns and scored 4 touchdown in this game? The same guy that was leading the league in all purpose yards this season before his injury? The guy that has the highest productivity of any back coming out his year except a certain UCLA running back who I won't name?
He says he runs out of bounds- but he was just injured by NOT running out of bounds.
Please, Schlereth was speaking with pure animosity and venom not based upon anything except his own jealousy. I can't believe that this a$$clown who says he follows football and gets paid for it (you Scott Wolf) didn't make the points I'm making.
Comments made by a former lineman who never hesitated to describe his willingness to routinely urinate in his football uniform will not be given much credit.
Bush is a defensive coordinator's ulcer-to-be.
What a Freakin' peace of crap that Mark Schlereth is! Whenever Reggie runs the ball, he is always looking for an opening or try to make something happen. At times, when the Saints need a spark offensively, Reggie isn't afraid to step up. He picks up the blitzes and is a very good inside runner.
As a matter of fact, Coach Payton has mostly used Reggie on Third Down situations to either draw the attention to free up someone else, or to utilize his ability to make plays.
Until Reggie shoots himself in the leg or gets in a fight with his own bodyguards, Reggie is still an excellent and all around player.
Hardcore Trojan fans are the only people who realize this guy and his skan, I mean, girlfriend, are still in the national field goal league... at least 'til he and the future of SC football take the stand in the upcoming payola trial. Personally, I think we should focus on the thousands of better citizens who've come through the program and represented the university with class and dignity. And just as fervently, we should demand that our coaches recruit character, as well as athletic superiority, and take a pass on the Bushs, Mayos and Leonard Washingtons. We are SC, and we'll all be better off in the end.
Isn't this the ex player who's nickname is "stink"? nuff said.
LenDale White just weighed in. He said that "Mark Schlereth sucks."
I love Reggie, but he killed me last night in my Fantasy Football play-offs. Should've started Pierre Thomas. Damn it!
So refreshing and enjoyable to hear a non-partisn perspective that could very well hit the nail on the head...
I second Matthew.
Reggie was a great player at USC. Just like Vince Young was at Texas, Jason White was at Oklahoma, Tommy Frazier was at Nebraska, Curtis Enis was at Penn State, and, um Cade McNown was at UCLA.
So he's not the greatest NFL player. Robert Meacham was the 27th player taken in 2007 and he can barely get on the field with the Saints. The NFL is a fun league, and college to the pro's is becoming like high school to college. Some five star prospects don't pan out, some lightly recruited players become stars. So what.
You know, this blog is getting bitchier and bitchier by the day. It seems that Wolfie is under great pressure from Dean Singleton & Co. to inflate hits, so, as the Song Girl "controversies" naturally burned out (who really cares), Scottie's needs another schtick to keep folks coming back. The new gimmick seems to be "bash SC," on the hopes that, this being an SC blog after all, he irritates so many fans that they can't help but come back. He wants to be the SC beat reporter SC fans love to hate.
Personally, I don't think Scott believes/care about 90% percent of what he writes. It's kind of sad, really.
Yesterday Pierre Thomas had 22 carries for 87 yards, an average of 4.0 yards per carry. Not horrible.
Take away his (very nice) 42 yard run and he had 21 carries for 45 yards, an average of 2.14 yards per carry.
Just sayin'
Good points Matthew, Desmo, and Sam Gilbert.
Reggie had 6 carries for 30 yds, or a robust 5.0 ypc. He can't produce if he doesn't get the ball. Also, he is coming off of a knee injury, so perhaps he is not at 100%.
Reggie's strength is running/receiving on the edge of the defense. He is an excellent punt returner. It doesn't make sense to pound him inside for 30 carries a game. He is not that type runner. As for running out of bounds, I recall a certain Hall of Famer, Franco Harris, was accused of the same thing. Schlereth is a moron.
Who is the moron above that said Reggie Bush is a good inside runner? Bush does a lot of things good on a football field but running between the tackles is not one of them.
BTW:
Did anyone see the game last night? Did you see the condition of the Soliders' Field? Like the Colesium's but after seven consecutive days of sub-freezing temperatures. Absolutely terrible.
No cut-back runner was going to be able to perform last night.

A lot of misperception on Reggie. Either people who are envious or simply don't watch all of the Saints games. I have. When he was injured, he was LEADING THE LEAGUE in TDs and receptions. Here's some more stats:
- averaging over 1,000 yards per season in rushing & receiving yards combined
- on a pace to finish with over 700 receptions for a 10 year career
- the games most dangerous return man
- the games most versatile running back
His injuries hold him back, but Reggie single handedly won or almost won at least 1/2 of the Saints games this season. He is a bona fide NFL star. Schlereth is a douche.
... meanwhile, the Texans are breathing a huge sigh of relief that they selected Mario Williams...
