Morton On OC
``I'm assuming if I'm offensive coordinator I'd call the plays,'' assistant coach John Morton said tonight. ``There's a certain blueprint and obviously here it's been successful. There's no reason to change anything. My philosophy is to make sure the quarterback gets in a rhythm and establishing the running game and have a well-balanced attack to help keep the defense on its toes.''

"I'm assuming..."???
You've gotta be kidding me! They don't talk about these "minute" details before they agree to the hire???
Why is Mickey Mouse running the USC football program?
I bet it was a baited question.
SW: "John, if you were to assume who would call the plays, who would it be?"
JM: (sighs)"Well, I'm assuming if I'm offensive coordinator I'd call the plays..."
You assume wrong John, you will RELAY the plays told to you by Ego Pete, have fun !!
Carroll keeps mentioning as to the qualifications for the new OC "They are familiar with the system" Pete! GET A CLUE, so is every defensive coordinator in the PAC 10.
Carroll is stuck in the NFL 90's. The NFL Eagles are now running a spread offense and it works.
There are many bright college OC's that have proven to be winners and would love to be a USC, though most are not willing to kiss Pete's butt in order to take the job.
If Coach keeps his 'SYSTEM' as he calls it the team will eventually have to Pay the Piper. What Norm Chow brought to the table 8 years ago, even with modifications is stale and predictable. Time to get innovative Coach!
The "theres no reason to change anything" statement is very dissappointing. What ever happened to creativity and maximizing your strengths?
