Here's what else our NFL scout said on Mark Sanchez.
``I think he should come out now. How much better will he get in a year? He should turn pro and be a backup next year with an NFL team. It would be better preparation for him.''

This is a surprising comment, since I thought most viewed Mark as very talented, but not yet pro material. And that he should definitely improve further next season playing at USC.
If so, a few thoughts/questions -
I'm curious whether the scout believes that if he went pro this year, he would be drafted on day 2, and therefore have less of a drain on a team's payroll as a backup, yet in position to learn at the pro level for 3+ years. Or, if he waited a year, would he be drafted on day 1 in 2010, and have a bigger price tag and the pressure to start/contribute sooner?
If so, does this scout not believe Mark will be ready to play at the next level for a few years, so he thinks Mark should forego the near-term $ in favor of longevity.
Or, could it be that there will be more QBs in the 2010 draft than 2009, so Mark will be in greater demand now?
Or, is Mitch Mustain's mom the scout?
I'm hoping Mark sticks around for another year.
Fight On!

Not a first day pick but he's ready so might as well go out and make some money. With a new OC and a stable of stud RBs demanding the rock the next QB will mostly be dealing the ball.

I seriously doubt this analysis is coming from an NFL scout... one that's reputable, anyway. Anonymity always stinks, and making these kinds of statements -- even if the "scout" believes them -- is presumptuous, given the scout is not with the team every day.

Huh? Did this Scout even watch him play? Sanchez is talented but to think he won't grow next year is absurd. Wait a year, play to expectations and be first round pick OR declare for the draft now and be a 3rd round pick. Hmm, tough choice. Not too many back-ups taken in the first round.
The Donkey says that Scott is simply a scandalous gal. Several NFL scouts agree with that opinion.

Who is this knowledgable pro scout? Al Davis? He is correct that the offense is not a well-oiled machine. Little innovation, no establishment of an identity, too much rotation. Our high flying offense of 5 years ago no longer works. Pac-10 coaches are too good. They have figured out how to play us and slow us down. Instead of establishing an identity and imposing our will, we are reactive. We do a very poor job of trying to force mismatches to exploit. Our offense is an old open book, and Tedford, Walker, Stoops, Riley have read it so often that they can recite it. It's time to innovate, Coach Pete! And, make next year the breakout year for Joe Mc!

As a general proposition, the NFL presumably provides a greater opportunity to learn and grow as a player, as there is no limit on the hours of practice, and no school courses to take as in college. Also, one presumes that the coaching is better in the NFL.
However, the NFL, unlike baseball or basketball, does not offer guaranteed contracts, and has no minor leagues. The only real guaranteed money in the NFL is the signing bonus. If a player is drafted in the later rounds, there is no guarantee that he will make any real money. Thus, there is always a chance that a lower round rookie could be cut during training camp. (As a QB, perhaps Sanchez would be immune from being cut in training camp.)
Baker, Ellis, and Rivers showed that staying another year in college was beneficial from a financial standpoint, as they were drafted much higher, and thus received a much higher signing bonus (and salary) than if they left the year before. As Carroll has stated, it only makes sense to come out early if the player is going to be among the best players available at his position.
As for Sanchez, he should stay at USC because he would not be a first round draft pick this year. If he can improve next year, he can elevate his draft status as a potential first rounder in 2010.

Once again usc mike makes perfect sense and Mark should come back for his senior season.

That's a first! This scout is by far in the minority. He must be a Raider scout, because most smart organizations would rather have a player develop in school more and not on their dime. Scott, I suggest getting more sources because this one is as relevant as Al Davis.
On that note, Taylor Mays is NFL ready and can play right away at the next level. I hope he returns, but would advise him to get paid. Fight on, TM!

If this "scout" thinks Sanchez is NFL ready and can't get better with another year playing at SC then the dude must be working for the Lions.
Wolfie, is it Matt Millen?
The Sporting News scout just released his Top 99 players (seniors and eligible underclassmen) and Mark Sanchez is not even listed.
Why would a "good" player come out when he's going to get "Wolf Type Money" and stand on the sidelines - if he makes the team at all.
As PC says "I don't know how you get better standing on the sidelines."

I think the point is this:
The scout believes Sanchez is not a particularly outstanding QB and not likely to improve significantly next year.
He thinks that Sanchez is about as good as he's going to get and that another year of college ball isn't going to increase his stock so significantly that he'd be prized any more highly than JDB was last year.
So by that logic, it's better to take your lumps now, follow the Matt Cassel route into a position where you can learn the pro system and maybe someday get your shot, but with the added benefit of getting an extra year as a pro back-up.

From Carson Palmer to JDB, these recent quarterbacks have stayed for their senior season because: 1) They are competitive and are very optimistic for winning a national title, and 2) they are simply loving the college atmosphere USC Football has been.

Sanchez has been in the system for four years now, he did a decent job but was supposed to blow it up this season. Yeah, he's played with injuries but who's to say he'll be completely healthy next year.
It's time to open it up for the younger guys.
The Ex-Cop has it right, except Sanchez will do great in the combine and workouts and will be drafted higher than Booty, maybe even late in the first day.

Whether he stays; goes, or otherwise is not the case.
There exists a quandary; Mark, as much as I like the kid is not a pocket passer, he's a scrambler a cut and run type QB, would in my opinion be great in an option or spread offense. Sarkisian has been training and working with him to this end, and it has no doubt been to Mark like having to eat vegetables he detests. So, we have a new OC and perhaps a new QB coach in Smith and where does this leave Mark? One has to surmise that Carroll being a creature of habit and persona will no doubt enforce his affection for the same lackluster offensive schemes we've seen for the last 'THREE YEARS'. Now with that said; how will Marks value increase, Yes he has some good PAC 10 stats, but next year he will be compared to the other Collegiate QB's like Tebow, etc. that will be Marks competitors for Drafts space. Mark cannot play another season just doing what it takes to win and be on the same level as QB's that are considered big play makers. Mark needs some good counsel from an agent.

Given the rather disappointing year, I expect Sanchez to come back. With (hopefully) better playcalling, a more cohesive offensive line, and more mature wide receivers, Sanchez really has nowhere to go but up. He might grow more as a nfl backup, but he really has no reason to leave. It also makes good money sense, given the amount of first round picks USC alone will have, and with all the high profile BIG-12 qbs coming out.
It depend on his draft position. Money talk at this stage.
