Assistant Head Coach
When Carl Smith was assistant head coach of the offense and Ken Norton assistant head coach of the defense, the titles sounded vaguely familiar (and ridiculous). Then I remembered the last time I heard them was when Norm Chow was going to be demoted in 2005 to make Lane Kiffin offensive coordinator, that was going to be his make title.

Oh my god Scott you solved it!! Pete's actually demoting Ken Norton and Carl Smith!!
We've seen Pete do this before! How could we be so foolish?!
Oh, wait a minute. No we haven't. Norton was the LBs coach and Carl Smith wasn't even on the staff last season and the (ridiculous) titles also come with ridiculously larger paychecks for each of them.
So how is any of this is a bad thing?
Once again you confirm that you're an idiot. Take one instance where Norm couldn't stand to have his fragile ego bruised and translate it to this situation that is in no way similar. If Norm had taken the Asst. Head Coach title, who knows, he might have been a head coach by now. But he rather throw a tantrum and sugget Pete is demoting him than allow Kiff or Sark to advance. I'm not sure how a demotion comes with a salary increase?
Top flight journalism at work ladies and gents.
How do you still have a job?
Far be it for me to defend SW but I think he was showing the comparisons of the creation of phony titles, often so he could shuffle around the people he liked and demote those that didn't. The notion here being that PC is becoming a power and ego freak that cares more about subservience than competence and professionalism. Whether that is valid is a different subject.
I tend to think there is some validity. Chow didn't have a "tantrum". PC was jealous of the media attention and credit. We heard the same things from the assistants like Martin and Walker. Now we hear Sark (albeit who isn't exactly the most loyal guy) say that PC has been morphing into "that guy". Then we get a bunch of guys that leave to take lower paying, lateral positions with less prestige.
Oh, and that post Norm championship? Still not here. PC is a great face for a great program. Hope he remembers that hiring the most excellent people available was what got SC winning even when we had less talent.
These two sentences barely make any sense. They are so badly written I had to read them three times to make any sense out of it. In the end, Wolf-bag's point was hardly worth the effort.
Silly, Silly fart semlling Wolf-bag.
So the Daily News fired Steve Dilbeck and kept Scott Wolf??? Man, Scott must work cheap!!
Chow interviewed for the Stanford job and then spoke to Sanchez to see if he was interested in changing his commitment. Don't you think that disloyalty might have something to do with him leaving?
Gee, in every business I ever worked in the top man had final say and ultimate responsibility for success or failure. As far as I'm concerned Pete can organize and label the coaching positions anyway he sees fit. I'm kinda of happy with the last eight years performance, would I like a couple of more NC's, sure, but I think he will get another one.
RE: the Daily News, Scott must have pictures of someone.
Yes, SC is the ridiculous place and we absolutely don't live in a culture where absurd important sounding titles abound. The funniest part is the horrible grammar posted directly above a post where you question the stadium committee because of a spelling error. Furthermore, a stadium can't spell something incorrectly because stadiums can't spell. They are inanimate objects.
Speaking on ridiculous titles... Scott Wolf "journalist".
Timmay gets it, the rest of you rah rah idiots don't, what a surprise.
Rah rah smells Scott Wolf's farts.
malachi crunch is a failed abortion
The Donkey yawns at this entry. The Donkey says you can call it the Chief Toilet Bowl Cleaner so long as his salary remains in the six digits.
Who cares what Pete calls anything, he's the boss and that is the only thing that matters, except that RRB isn't. He's the idiot, tenfold.
Rah rah is a retarded abortion re-incarnate, that smells his own farts.
"Then I remembered the last time I heard them was when Norm Chow was going to be demoted in 2005 to make Lane Kiffin offensive coordinator, that was going to be his make title."
That was going to be his make title? WTF? That's the dummest sentence ever tiped within site of the Coloseum.
