Even More Carroll On Sanchez

| | Comments (22) |

Pete Carroll was asked if Sanchez could wind up at the top of the draft?
``Yeah. Somebody falls in love with him. It only takes one team. that's what mark is really banking on that they'll see how smart he is, how well prepared he is, regardless of how long he played. The biggest thing he has to overcome is the lack of starts, the lack of games.''

Carroll is a scumbag - only looking out for himself. It make perfect sense for Sanchez to leave. He will likely be the top QB drafted. You can't fault him for turning that down. You just can't.

This should have been the happiest day of Mark's life. Instead, hes got his head coach talking trash about him. What a mess.

Good luck in the NFL, Mark. You've got it all. Talent, leadership, well-spoken, looks, and intelligence.

Carroll is a public figure and is asked to give his opinion of the situation. He would be a scumbag if he didn't answer the questions honestly.

Mark made the wrong decision. He'll figure that soon enough.

Mark should have stayed. Pete should have supported Mark regardless of Mark's decision. Everyone pretty much effed up today.

In other news, how about the hoops win over ASU? Scott? Lot of second half points (or so they said on 710 AM, the only place to follow outside of the Galen Center).

55-19,
Glad to know someone else was listening, that's a great W against ASU! Don't expect Wolf to report it, he's all about bad news.
And BRUtus, thanks for the ruin point of view. Pete really needs advice from losers like you and Slick.

Pete, Mark's just not that into you. KTLA just called the coach "Peeved Carroll". Bummer all around.

Wolfie,
If you are going to poach PMS for quotes; at least get them right. All Carroll said was there was supposed to be a podium; he said freakin' once, and moved on.

Once again you fail to capture the "spirit" of a situation. You twist everything just for self promotion. It's blatantly obvious. Seems that you've entered the bitter old man faze of your life about 30 yrs early. And no, Amanda nor Erin love you.

Did you ever see the movie "Clueless"? That's what you've become. You are "Cher" (Alicia Silverstone), except unattractive and failing to consider there may be a better way to approach life. Quit being a little female dog; she did. You've spent so much time at USC that you've become the airhead stereotype that is USC.

Look in the mirror my man. What you despise, you have become.

Report the truth, keep the kool-aid for yourself, I'm not drinking it and I doubt anyone else is either.

Hey Carroll no wonder you wife is about to file for divorce. Do you any opinions on that? If I was Mark's dad I take a can of whoopa$$ on petey.

I think people are missing something. There are TWO separate issues here.
1)Could Mark Sanchez improve his ability by staying in school another year.
2)Will he improve his draft potential if he stays in school another year.

The answer to the first is, of course, yes. This is almost always the case. I am sure he could benefit by staying two or three years in school. He would get better each and every year.

The key issue here is -- will his draft potential be better next year. It is always possible that it will. But that is taking a huge risk . The answer is probably no. Most likely it would stay around the same.

What I find so strange and puzzling is Carroll's intense anger in all this. Is this a side of Pete Carroll that we have never seen before -- that he has kept hidden?

When you are a Trojan you are suppose to be part of a family. Why would you so publicly attack Sanchez?? Isn't that stuff that a family is suppose to keep "inside the family?"

And most importantly, why would you publicly denigrate Mark's draft potential by throwing out the suggestion that he "will be a second round pick?"

Aren't you suppose to feel happy for someone in your family when they achieve their dream? And don't you sometimes try to stay positive for someone in your family -- even when they made what you feel is a mistake?

Listen -- there is NO ONE who suggests that Mark doesn't have lots of NFL potential. It isn't like he hasn't already competed against the best and beaten the best in college football. This isn't someone coming out of high school or someone who has never played major college football.

If I was looking at this as simply an unbiased observer I would think that Pete was simply being selfish -- upset that he won't have Mark next season.

What would Pete say if Mark changed his mind in the next three days, got injured next season, and was never able to be a high draft pick.

I am sure Pete would be so proud of Mark then.

Instead of looking at who said what or who shouldn't have said something...let's look at how Sanchez and Carroll got to this point. Of course Carroll is upset that Sanchez is leaving..aren't we all? I think we all were thinking the same thing..Sanchez will come back next year, he'll play great, win the Heisman and we'll all be sitting at the Rose Bowl watching USC play for the National Championship. I am sure that this was a hard decision for Sanchez, yet isn't this how we groom our top college athletes? We lead them to believe that they're dream of playing in the NFL will only be realized if they are picked in the top spots and make the most money? Has anyone ever asked those who were picked last if they are realizing their dream? Probably not. Unfortunately money talks and that's a shame. I understand the logistics of opportunity, the chance for injury, etc., etc.,...It can go either way. Matt stayed, won a Heisman and got drafted high..now, he doesn't play much. Cassell played back up (for what seemed to be many, many years) to many QB's and didn't get his shot until this year....and excelled. He stuck with it. In the end, Carroll's opinion is his, Sanchez's choice is his and our feelings on both are ours. I wish Sanchez the best, yet you can never get this upcoming college season back and he will have a lot of what if's in his mind..he has to live with it. We will still continue to go to games and cheer on the Trojans. Carroll is a scumbag for voicing his disappointment? I think not. He is passionate about the game and believes in the college game. I highly doubt that Mark Sanchez was offended by his coach today. Sanchez should stay and I'm sure he'll have a sleepless next 3 nights trying to decide whether he made the "best" choice. Who knows.

What was the most telling was when Pete was done with his Q&A he gave Mark the blow by shoulder pat. No extended handshake, hug, or anything ahowing genuine good feelings. He gave Mark what he gives coaches he does not really like.

Not saying the behavior is good or bad, just what I saw.

NFL insiders will tell you that Pete's comments were like putting a Columbian Neck Tie on Sanchez' draft prospects. He keeps going to the well (on his blog, quotes to the press).

Why does he want to cost Sanchez so much money? Is this a warning shot across the bough to current SC players and future recruits that Pete Carroll is your golden key to NFL riches (and not your on field performance / ability)?

I wonder what Pete said to Taylor Mays to keep him. Did he use the "60 plus percent" of underclassmen strawman again?

How does this assist in recruiting 5 star talent (certainly the most important ingredient in Carroll's Cake recipe).

Listening to his Petros and Money interview, he did not sound articulate in his defense of his actions. For a major college coach to use the work "freakin'" to the press and use a "podium" as the excuse to why he was percieved as "scorned woman"-like, does not help the perception.

Between this and the "Norton is my Jerry Mahoney" reaction to losing Pressley...Pete is not playing the public relations handbook very well.

Sark, Holt, Sanchez and now Smith (interviewing for Browns) have just said "NO" to Pete......

Is the guy "Losing IT"......?

Why do I have a sinking feeling in my stomach this morning? After another great year of Trojan football, we seem to be running into a lot of bad PR lately. First Pressley, then the whole thing between the Weasel and Norton and now this. The sports press is unanimously bashing CPC this morning - what kind of message are we trying to send here. I'll miss Sanchez like the rest of us, but he's graduating and will be a great representative for the Trojans for years to come. Someone explain to me what's going on lately?

That is why SC's safety, Mays is staying, more money.

Wow Scott, more and more jealous bRUINS hitting your blog like feasting sharks in a bloodpool. A slight negative aspect on PC...fostered by your sorry ass attempt to make news instead of reporting it...by attempting to torch a presser that you only attended 25% of....and look what you have done. Turned your USC blog into a bRUIN piss pot. Brilliant. The 1 or 2 bRUINS that keep changing their login to show their asses here is the direct result of your unprofessional so called attempt at journalism. Nice work SW.

spedjones: Why do I have a sinking feeling in my stomach this morning?

Oh, jeez, I read countless of these concern troll posts before the Rose Bowl "We're too cocky, I have a bad feeling." Get over it. Grow up. We'll be fine. And UCLA will still go 5-7 next year. Even better, their B-Ball team won't be making a trip to the final four.
