One thing someone like tailback C.J. Gable needs to worry about is the idea of being a low-round draft pick. More than the money involved is the idea that you are treated differently when you join a team as a fifth or sixth-round pick instead of a third-round pick. You can get cut quickly and then it's over.
Now I'm sure someone like Gable already thinks they are a third-round pick. But the delicate balance is weighing where you get picked vs. what you might become next year?
He might feel he won't play enough next year to improve his draft stock. And there are no assurances with playing time, especially with Marc Tyler now experienced enough to compete.
Just one reason these decisions do not come quickly.

The Rose Bowl was a microcosm of his career thus far at USC. A great run, a great TD catch, a lost fumble, pouting on the sideline. Musberger called him SC's best all-around back during the telecast. Even on Gable's TD catch and run he bobbles the ball near the goal line. watch it again...You can see Pete holding his breath as he sees CJ sruggling to keep possession of the ball.
I saw the same thing. If that bobble happens on the 5 and he gets hit again, it's Penn State ball. Pete Carroll's #1 mantra is protect the football. CJ struggles with that, and since he doesn't have the perceived potential to turn a 6 yard loss into a 54 yard touchdown, that will cost him PT and carries.
Never thought about this but very true I think Gable should realize this but then again if he stays next year his stock WILL not increase due to rotation.
Go pro Mr Fumble and talk Mrs Fumble (Joe Mcknight) to go with you. Hope you both enjoy playing at Staples Center for the Avengers.
