Obama On USC

``I think USC, which had a great Rose Bowl, beat Penn State pretty badly, they've got a pretty good claim to be No. 1.''

There are more imoportant issues facing the nation, but its great to see P-E BO engaged in our pastimes as well. Maybe he could use the bully pulpit to dismantle the BCS conspiracy and implement a 8 or 16 team playoff.

Hey Curious George, just stick to making the USA into your own little socialist state, ok?

He must not realize that USC isn't in the Big 12 or SEC, eh Scott? Maybe you can set him straight. Where would you rank USC in the Big 12 today, maybe #4 behind OU, Texas, TT, and OSU?

Dear Rah Rah's Bite,

I would appreciate it if you avoid racist remarks. This blog would be better off without such ignorance.

I agree Rusty. the world will be a better place if we'll all be more politically correct and never say anything that may offend anyone anywhere, unless of course you are a straight white male or a mormon; then bash away.

Let's take this debate a step further:

1. Utah-- only undefeated team; had the softest schedule of the "Big-5"; had a quality win over Alabama, but the Tide was a suspect team all year long;

2. Texas-- beat Oklahoma soundly; only loss was a last-second heartbreaker; Ohio State victory was less than awesome;

3. Florida-- lost to Mississippi which turns out was a pretty good team; deserves No. 1 if it beats Oklahoma;

4. Oklahoma-- lost convincingly to Texas; will probably lose to Florida but if not then there could be a split championship;

5. USC-- lost to Oregon State which was a good team; did not have any other close calls and beat Penn State badly.

So, if Florida wins there will be no split champion;
But if Oklahoma wins there is a slight chance for Utah, Texas or USC, all of whom have a legitimate argument.

Probable outcome if Oklahoma wins: Utah, SC and Texas will each get some votes, but none will garner enough votes to oust Oklahoma out of the AP.

Florida (50 first place votes) and Oklahoma (9) are No. 1 & 2 in the current AP Poll. The winner of the game will be the AP Nat'l Champ, as well.

We must remember that USC was No. 1 in the AP Poll before the bowl games in 2003. Thus, its win over Michigan in the Rose Bowl kept it at No. 1, above LSU.

Now, the AP is not going to catapult another team to No. 1 over the FLA-OKL winner. As noted by LJ, there may be a few dissents for No. 1, perhaps regionally based, for USC, Utah, and Texas (who had 6 first place votes coming in). In the end, however, it will be a landslide for Okl-Fla winner. (LJ - your list ignored USC's ass-kicking of the Buckeyes!!) We know Wolfie won't put USC No. 1.

(If Okl wins, the voters will have to consider that Okl just beat the No. 1 team. The bulk of those 50 Fla AP votes will go to Okl. Also, Texas' last-second win over Ohio St did not impress, at all. Utah has the best argument as the only undefeated team. USC would beat them all...just not Oregon St.)

My predicted order of AP Final Poll:

1. Fla
2. Texas
3. USC
4. Utah
5. Okl

I agree with Obama on who should be No. 1...and Rah Rah you still bite.

Obama knows USC football. He's an Oxy Tiger and they do play serious football at Eagle Rock. Division III has playoffs, so don't tell Barky it can't be done.

Rah Rah, you really are an idiot.

Who has Florida beaten this year? If the game is close, I think they lose support in the AP and you will see votes split between Florida, Utah, and USC. Florida probably still carries the poll though.

Florida's best wins are Alabama (weak all year, humiliated in bowl), Georgia (overrated), LSU (5 losses). Ole Miss' bowl win makes their regular season loss a bit better but it still was a terrible loss.

I thought Obama wanted every team to be 6-6.

Take wins away from the top programs and give them to the losers. Aren't they "entitled" to share in the dream?
