Pete Carroll said he also spoke to New York Jets assistant Brian Schottenheimer. One advantage for hiring Bates is that Carroll said the Broncos run a similar offense to USC.

Come on Scott, the main advantage is he had three years left on his Bronco contract and just got a raise in December.
