Urban Planning

Maybe this is one reason Florida coach Urban Meyer is successful. He just hired a 23-year coaching veteran who worked at Wisconsin, Syracuse and Washington to be his tight ends coach, a spot usually reserved for someone without much experience.

Brian White Named Tight Ends' Coach at Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Brian White has been named the University of
Florida's tight ends' coach, head coach Urban Meyer announced on
Wednesday. A 23-year coaching veteran and former winner of the American
Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division I Assistant Coach of the
Year, White has tutored a Heisman Trophy Winner, coached in 12 bowl
games and served on coaching staffs that have won a national title and
two league championships.

"Brian is a long-time friend and will be a great addition to our
coaching staff," said Meyer. "He will play a key role in our
offensive game plan and our special teams' preparation. He is a
relentless recruiter and has an understanding of our program's
philosophy. He is very cerebral and will make a smooth transition into
our program."

During White's 11-year tenure at Wisconsin, he mentored 1999 Heisman
Trophy winner Ron Dayne, 2001 NFL first-round draft choice Michael
Bennett, 2001 Big Ten Freshman of the Year Anthony Davis and 2006
Capital One Bowl Most Valuable Player Brian Calhoun. In 2004, White was
named the AFCA Division I Assistant Coach of the Year.

Or maybe it’s because his team has people like you pimp him and SEC all season, so even when they do end up losing at home to an inferior team they still make it to the championship game and play an overrated opponent. SC's been screwed out of the game at least twice now and would probably have won both.

You must have missed this part, Scott:

"Brian is a long-time friend ... "

Uh-oh. He's doing that Pete thing, hiring friends. Oh well, I guess you can delete your post, now.

... and what has this guy had to do with Meyer's success?

So not only is Brian a "long-time friend" but he will also be doing special teams stuff. You mean he's not a FULL TIME SPECIAL TEAM'S GUY? If only Florida and USC had Scott Wolf as a coach the past 6 years they could maybe have won like 4 championships or something.

Oh wait, they did!

Oh Scott, one must be careful, a double edged sword cuts both ways. Touche.

Right, better to hire some burn-out case from the Big10 (do they have receivers in that league?) than some eager beaver with recent playing experience who will work 24/7, study the game and relate to his players.
