There is a contrarian view to the events leading up to the announcement of Renardo Sidney: Once it became apparent Sidney would go to USC, UCLA leaked to the media that it was no longer interested before he officially dropped them.

As we know from the recent football signing day, there's a lot of gamesmanship that goes into recruiting. I can easily believe that Howland & Co. floated the old "we didn't want him anyway" line to the media if Sidney expressed a preference for USC. And I can also envision a scenario in which UCLA really added up all the non-basketball factors and decided that Sidney would not be a good fit in Westwood. And that fact that a player as talented as Sidney is still not signed this late in his senior year tells me he's got issues and baggage.
But, I'm not one of those fans who wishes players shrivel up and become busts just because they don't choose UCLA. Hopefully the more structured and disciplined lifestyle of Division 1 basketball will help young Sidney get his priorities in order and lead him to a career in this sport.

Wolf, Its time to celebrate the committment from Sidney. You are waaaaaaaay to consumed about what is allegedly being said across town. First you wouldn't let go of the Toma (NON) story and now you are focusing on a "leak" to the media instead of writing about such an awesome young baller into the program. You are getting very petty.

Hmm...troubling this contrarian view is.
In the dark, USC fans still are.
This player, UCLA did not want.
Not yet revealed, the reasons are.
But, great embarrassment, I sense.
Meditate on this, I must.

The kid will never qualify, so what does it matter?

Can we all agree not to be so stupid as suggest that UCLA would not want this kid. They are losing Shipp and Collison. They need new scorers and would love to have Sidney.
He probably just thought UCLA was way too square and lame for his wanna be a thug lifestyle. That's why I chose SC.

UCLA did not want Sidney. He is a violation waiting to happen, and probably will never qualify anyway. Bush, Mayo, Sidney, plus the litany of other cheating and nonsense that goes on at $UC...sanctions are a'comin'

Hey GoTroyGO, you do know that "Papa Sam" was a booster for USC football every bit as much as he was for UCLA basketball, right? Oops, you're a moron.

"UCLA was the leader going into that week, but then something happened and my parents didn't tell me what it was," said Sidney. "They just said they thought it was best for me to open up my options"
LOLOLOLOLOL! I wonder "something" happened? Gee, I can't figure it out. UCLA dropped Sidney and $UC showed up with a briefcase is what happened.
Thank you Captain Obvious.
