If Randall Carroll goes to UCLA, Vontaze Burfict goes to Arizona State and Byron Moore goes to Notre Dame, will it matter if USC signs Manti Te'o, Jawanza Starling and perhaps Jarvis Jones?

Will SC's class suck without them, of course not, but it will still matter - you can never have too many 4 and 5* guys in a class.

Seriously, good question/thought.
I would say that USC comes out ahead if they get T'eo, Starling & Jones instead of Carroll (super fast but questionable work ethic and would have to learn a new position-cb), Burfict (T'eo & Jones more than make up for it, if just T'eo, call it a wash), and Moore (Starling appears to be the real deal, but I liked Moore-appeared he would have to go to corner or wait his turn at one of the safety spots, so, it's a plus, how big of one who knows?).

Let's get you up to speed, Scott:
Randall Carroll has not commented - insiders say SC
SC is no longer recruiting Burfict. He can't qualify
Latest info is Byron Moore leaning to SC
If Te'o, Starling and Jones come and the others don't - probably no worse than the No. 2 class in the country.
Scott is right VB will be a loss but the other two wouldn't see the field for 2-3 years.

Manti Te'o, LB, Punahou (Honolulu)
The contenders: Notre Dame, UCLA, USC
The latest: SN's 2008 high school athlete of the year plans to take a two-year Mormon mission when he turns 19. That's typical at BYU, but he has eliminated the Cougars from his list. "I ask coaches, 'If I want to go on my mission, would you support me?'" Te'o says.
SN prediction: Signs with UCLA

You are a little behind SW as a lot of these guys info is being leaked on the recruiting boards. Most are USC and even more are in line.
Get your $100 and get the insider info or be nicer and the recruiting insiders might confide in you. You tend to alienate USC fans, insiders and Coaches. Might be a bad idea for a reporter to screw the guys you write about.
Just a tip.

I think the thing that is most concerning about this situation is not that USC is potentially losing early commits to other schools, it is that USC is losing early commits from the Los Angeles area. These are supposed to be the kids most loyal to the program and least likely to decommit.

laughing at 2 things here... first, no way Te'o goes to UCLA. Second, SC did not "stop recruiting" VB. CPC begged him to put his decision off so he could win him back. Trojans a Top-5 class no matter what, and possibly No. 1 if all goes right, but let's be honest here.

Burfict is going the JC route. SC backed off after realizing there is NO WAY he will qualify.

Spedjones, the SC "academic team" went through his grades with him last night. He doesn't qualify.

SCMBA,
Those are the kids most likely to change their mind. First off, they are local kids who committed early because it was USC. Then, other schools came in and they began to hear about the USC depth chart, blah, blah, blah, etc., etc. They began to feel that they had rushed into a decision. It's natural.
I would not say it's a concern. We are all USC fans. Florida has de-commits, so do all the schools.

ha ha ha. The SC "academic team"?? What the hell is that? That line made me laugh out loud. If a football player cannot get into USC, things must be really, really, really ugly. Can't the SC Academic Team send him over to Trade Tech along with the rest of the football team for some easy "A" grades.

In addition to having great athletes the best recruiting classes have balance. What good did that class do that had all those tailbacks? (Gable, Moody, McNight, Bradford) You can only put one on the field at a time. What we ended up getting is some transfers out of the program and more then one unhappy player complaining about playing time.
