There's been quite a stir from the NFL combine over the fact USC safety Kevin Ellison ran the 40 in 4.8 seconds. But looking back, Ellison ran 4.75 at USC in 2006 and a 4.63 in 2005. He was officially timed in 2007 or 2008.

So...what were his times in 07 and 08?

He wasn't timed in those years. Scott has the uncanny ability to omit key words in his posts. He has the worst spell/grammar checker in the history of mankind.

What kind of stir? Are people backing off him cause that time is too slow or are the scouts impressed with that time combined with his size and he is climbing up the charts. Its easy to look the part when you got T Mays sitting next to you and solid corner guys tossing guys 165lbs off the line. Not too mention the 3 headed LB's pressuring the passer and falling back into the lanes.
I don't remember Ellison ever getting beat in pass coverage or in the run game. Whoever picks him up in the later rounds is getting a steal and an instant contributor on special teams as well as an eventual starter, whether at SS or OLB.

Bill Bellichick says that the NFL safety position has evolved into a big cornerback position with a need for speed. Meanwhile, OLB in the 3-4 defense needs to be a hybrid big safety with speed. I love K-El as a weakside LB in the 3-4! He is awesome against the run.

About Inside USC
Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC
graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for
the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet
message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this
moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in
antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
