The Curious Case of Te'o (Part IX)
We heard from a Notre Dame source that the Irish considered turning down a bowl bid until learning they would go to the Hawaii Bowl, which meant a chance to recruit linebacker Manti Te'o, who attended at least one ND practice.

yawn.... drop it already
I remember Lou Holtz saying they'd rather sit out bowl season than accept a weak bid. Anyone know if they ever actually did?
A little late to the party. Petros laid out this scenario the day after NLI signing day.
This Teo must be the second coming of Junior Seau.
Actually, this is pretty interesting guys. It suggests that Charlie Weis has completely bet the farm on Te'o. The thing I find weird is that somebody in that kid's circle has to figure out or be told that if he's not going to a perennial top NC contender that he needs to announce and commit early and stick to his commitment so that he can attract additional top talent. The book in this is a "how not to" guide for top college recruits. Scott would win an Emmy for the audio version.
But seriously, this revelation begs one huge question... And I'll ask it in the next open forum.
T'eo is almost becoming as much of an obsession as cheerleaders.
This kid better be the 2nd coming of christ for this amount of effort actually be worth it...There is a good chance he is giong to be a bust just like every other supposed 5 Star Recruit...What happens when he takes his mission and loses his edge and gets fat?
With apologies to Chuck Norris . . .
When Manti Te'o does a pushup, he isn’t lifting himself up, he’s pushing the Earth down.
Manti Te'o doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants.
Manti Te'o has 12 moons. One of those moons is the Earth.
Some people wear Superman pajamas. Superman wears Manti Te'o pajamas.
Manti Te'o doesn't bowl strikes, he just knocks down one pin and the other nine faint.
Manti Te'o doesn’t wear a watch, HE decides what time it is.
this case sucks
Speaking of package deals:
The NCAA is investigating USC point guard Daniel Hackett and an arrangement that allows him to have his tuition paid, according to an ESPN report.
Hackett technically is not on scholarship as a member of the Trojans, but his tuition is covered because his father, Rudy Hackett, is a university employee as the team's strength and conditioning manager.
Rudy Hackett was hired in 2005. Daniel Hackett, who was the No. 66 player in his recruiting class according to Rivals, followed his father to USC the next season. According to the report, this is what the NCAA would deem a "package deal." An NCAA focus group is reportedly looking at this package deal and others like it.
USC officials and men's basketball coach Tim Floyd had no comment on the report.
"Such an arrangement fits the NCAA's description of a package deal. And although it is technically not a rules violation, an official with the NCAA says the misuse of such deals is being examined by an NCAA focus group," ESPN anchor Josh Elliott said on a Thursday morning edition of SportsCenter.
"...it is technically not a rules violatoin..."
And, it is commonplace. This is not NCAA enforcement, but a study by an NCAA focus group. It is hard to find a program out there who hasn't used this method to gain a scholarship or woo a recruit. Free Lendale, hilarious!
Look at little DrewBruin trying to change the subject.
Hey, Free Lendale, a shout-out to you. By far the funniest thing I have read in a long, long time. Is that an F.L. original or did you have help with it?-- No matter, it is great stuff.
