Yesterday we gave you the special one, er, Mel Kiper's view of Mark Sanchez. Here's what the ESPN analyst said about his competition, Georgia QB Matthew Stafford.
``You look at Stafford with the big arm. He's got the great arm. You can put him in the same class with any of the others that have come out. I'm not going to say anybody has a John Elway or Bert Jones arm.
``Their arm was in a class all by itself. Cutler's arm isn't as strong as Elway's or Bert Jones, and Stafford is in the Cutler mold. He's inconsistent like Cutler was at Vanderbilt and still is with the Denver Broncos.
``The inconsistency sometimes doesn't leave you. It was there with Cutler and is still there. ....Stafford had it at Georgia and if he still has that inconsistency in the NFL he'll be an up-and-down quarterback. People will be raving about him one week and criticizing him the next. Stafford has great upside. ... Inconsistency reigns supreme with some quarterbacks and that's something he's going to have to prove otherwise.''
How many times has banking on "upside" killed the careers of NFL management?
Jmarcus Russell is the most recent big arm bust that had a huge "upside" and inconsistency problems. Mark Sanchez will go first if the NFL has learned anything. Too bad it will be to Detroit.

I doubt he'll go to Detroit. These are my guesses:
1. KC 2. J'ville 3. SF 4. NYJ
I am a 49ers fan so I hope hey draft him plus it doesn't get cold in SF like in NY. Mark said he doesn't like cold weather.

I hope you're right, Detroit is cursed. KC would be an excellent spot but word is the won't take a QB. Don't know about the Jags, but the Jets are going after Kurt Warner. My Pop is also an SF fan and is rooting for Mark to go there.

I have just heard on ESPN that Curt Warner going to the NYJ is just a tabloid rumor. The reason I mentioned Jacksonville is that Jack Del Rio grabs an USC fan every chance he gets. If he doesn't take Mark he'll snatch Rey and you can bet on that! He'll be a fool not to.

You're right about Jack Del Rio. And just for fun, the Jags are tops on the list to move to Ed Roski's (USC Alum and Trustee) stadium in Industry. Mark or Rey Rey back in LA... Awesome!

I agree with you about Mark. I hope he goes to The Niners. I am a long time Niner fan. My father took to me to games at Kezar Stadium.(I know giving up my age). Very colorful and heady days, especially with the all alphabet backfield. C.R. Roberts(USC), J.D. Smith, Y.A Title, and R.C. Owens (The Alley Oop).
It would make sense for the Niners to draft Mark. His jersey would be sold from NoCal to Chutemal, Mexcico. The license fees would be gargantuan.
I still say he reminds me of Plunkett.
I live in the south and watch a lot of SEC games. This is a running conference. There aren't any Pro Syle QB's. How is it that the QB from the No.12 team is listed as No#1 in draft? More SEC hype BS, He lost to the BAM and the Swamp Rats. And how does an unknown QB from Utah light up Bama he number 3 team? And why doesn't the wining BCSC QB come out and turn Pro? He knows he is not a QB. There are no Pro style QB's in the SEC. Look at Raider QB and Skins QB struggle.
Ask the KC Chiefs. They took one and tanked most of there games. Denver took one and got the coach fired. The NFl is proliferated with Pac-10 QB's and here lately USC is filling that position.
The Niners need an OT but the need a QB even worse. Mark to the Niners is a Win-Win situation.

Don't worry about the age thing! Everybody knows that I am an old gizzard, too. I opened that can of worms a few months ago when I said I was in VN. The OT void can be filled either through the draft or Free Agency. Before I go any further where in the south do you live? The draft is fairly OT rich. Mike Singletary thinks he can run the 49ers like the damn Bears; he's infatuated with the running game. Frank Gore is NO no Garrison Hearst, Ricky Wattters or Roger Craig. If they want to put fans on the seats they need a QB that can light-up the scoreboard. They should sign Jeff Garcia and draft Mark so Jeff can mentor him. That is a Chicano QB connection! Have you checked Mark's interview transcripts at the OC Reg(usc.freedomblogging.com)? His HS coach at Mission Viejo Bob Johnson is getting him ready for the NFL combine. I went to HS in NoCal, College was Cal State LA (Did we have a team or what about 9 kids went to NFL and was undefeated my two years) was drafted by DOA :>) came back went to USC. I moved to Atlanta, GA in 1999.
I look forward to this season because I love going to South Bend and this year going to columbus. My home games this season looks like OSU and the RUINB. That 4 hour ride out has a very difficult time competting against a 52 inch 1080p HDTV. The home games seem to dwindle each year. Last year was 4. However, if we start lighting up the scoreboard like we did in 04' and 05' I'll be right out.
