Excellent poll, Jill!

You should do a follow up about how many SUC fans cared about football prior to Pete Carroll arriving. Stadium used to be half empty when Hackett was coaching. Oh how soon trOJies forget.

I'm calling it now RuineyGutless, we're going to sweep you next season in football AND basketball. Your only release will be to come on this board to spew your drivel. Bandwagon fans and even losers like you are welcome, because USC gives meaning to your life.

Enjoy your girls gymnastics championship, and good luck filling the Rose Bowl with Captain Skippy's stinking 5 win team and your unemployed State worker "alumni."

Another cool thing from Conquest Chronicles that is often overlooked...James Boyd and Kevin Greene, SC stud football recruits, have both asked to play for Timmy in hoops. Along with Cameron, we may have 3 footballers on the squad next season. How cool is that. Hopefully, our shallow bench will be a thing of the past. Now, I'm just waiting for Leonard to ask to play football....

And, one final thought. I was pretty down on Dwight Lewis during his shooting slump. But, who would you pick as the Trojan's NCAA tourney MVP? Demar had got numbers, but Dwight had the best lines in both games. Way to show up, Dwight!

While I applaud the run the Trojans went on to end the year, I laugh a bit at how quickly you all forget you lost 6 of your last 9 during the regular season. Let's face it - U of A wasn't the best team in the Pac-10 but they're the only ones left. Similarly, SC wasn't the best team in the Pac (I'll give it to UW) and likely won't be next year either. Perspective is a wonderful thing...

Dwight and Daniel were Ultimate Warriors. They both every second of every possession in the NCAA tournament. Hack also played every single minute during the Pac-10 tournament, and Dwight played 37, 39, and 39 respectively.

Eff UCLA's "Ben Ball Warriors". Daniel and Dwight laugh at their notion of what is a warrior.

The team played with heart and beyond the expectations of many.

And Smeagol-Wolf is still off somewhere else--but not here.

It's a good day.

Final Word:

"Build it and they will come."

Especially in L.A. sports, you have to have a winning team or noone will care; there are too many other good teams and activities that compete for one's time.

A hotly-contested basketball game, such as
SC-MSU was, has more exciting moments in 2-hours than a college football game has in 3 1/2 hours. But to compare the sports is like comparing steak to chocolate cake. You can like them both, but they are so different it is impossible to compare. Someone described a great football game as an "event." I don't think you think of basketball in that way.

SUCLA basketball supremacy over SC was established by that old hypocrite and cheater John Wooden. I hated the guy when he coached. Now, he is old and I guess like an old Nazi, you kind of forgive him his ways. I guess. But if SC continues to show the heart it showed in the Pac-10 tournament and in the NCAAs, and Coach Tim Floyd continues to recruit lights out, they have given SUCLA a run for its money.

Football is a much more difficult road for SUCLA to navigate because it does not involve 5-men (a la basketball), but 80 to 100 men. SC is so far ahead that SUCLA might not see a national championship until the year 2100 (which means everybody alive now will be dead).

Hey Rodney,

Last time I checked USC's been playing and winning championships for a while before Pete got here so your comment is very short term and really only applies to a short period of USC history. (Most of our records for attendance we're just now breaking did take place before Pete after all so there have been USC fans around for a while).

So we had a down period in the 90's for a few years where our team stunk and a lot of fans fell off. It's not easy selling out a 98K seat stadium in one of the biggest cities in the world when your team stinks - LA isn't in the south - no team in LA would be able to do that. It's not just a USC phenomena.
You wouldn't know what it's like to have to sell a stadium that big when your team stinks because well UCLA has stunk for most of it's existence. Our down decade is 95% of UCLA's existence as a football program.

So you sell out your basketball arena. Big whoop. It seats one fifth of what the Coliseum does. It's called perspective.

Tyler, get your facts straight...the rabid UCLA fans rarely come out in enough force to sell out Pauley. . .(much to my personal chagrin)

RG and Blue Anus, you might want to return to your blog before daylight, lest you turn to stone.

The University of California, Lost Achievement has four losses to circle for the next session before they can reclaim the "Underachievement of the Pac-10" trophy. Just like basketball...

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
