Seriously you're just reporting this now? This has been common knowledge in basketball circles for quite some time. It's called leverage and everyone does it. You have to establish your worth to get a decent raise and everyone knows that the best way to do that is to seek outside employment. See: Pete's interviews with the various NFL teams in the past.
I wouldn't recommend you try it though because if you threatened to leave the Daily News they probably wouldn't even bat an eye.

Scott was cynical about Floyd's visit to Tucson from day 1 guys. I'm just surprised that even works. If I were the AD, I'd have given him permission to test the waters after a strong Pac 10 tournament and then decide if I wanted to match it. Takes this bush league stuff out of play.
Floyd's a brilliant coach and even got Sydney to come play for him. Oh, wait...
