Versus Conference Update
The Las Vegas Bowl just announced its new sponsor is MAACO, which means it will be known as the ``MAACO Las Vegas Bowl.''
Apparently, MAACO calls itself ``America's Body Shop,'' which is appropriate since the Pac-10's bowl arrangements are a car wreck. They recently gave away the Hawaii Bowl to Conference USA because the conference could not come up with enough bowl eligible teams last season.
Expansion. Hello Utah (or BYU or TCU) and Colorado. Even in a year of strong top teams and weak bottom teams the 10 team round robin doesn't work with the way the modern bowl system is set up. For people concerned about academics I think that any of those schools would happily step spending and also benefit by joining the PAC Ten doctoral / research consortium. Too bad UNLV didn't develop its academic and football programs. Las Vegas away games would be crazy.
