USC officials say they are currently unable to answer reports that guard Noel Johnson, the top incoming recruit, was released from his letter of intent and will attend another school.
However, Johnson's father told scout.com that his son's departure was ``official.''
Lynbert Johnson also told scout, ``"Anytime you have a kid that is starting his freshman year you want him to go into a calmer setting, rather than having a cloud over your head.''
Funny, where are those "Final 4" chants now? Bwahahaha!
Tough couple turn of events for USC Basketball. They got closer than they have in a long time. Renardo Sidney, Noel Johnson, and Solomon Hill...all toast.
Mark my words, USC basketball is going to get nailed by the NCAA and USC football will only get a slap on the wrist.

How much of all this goes back to Ryan Francis' shooting. If Francis lives, does OJ Mayo come to USC? If Mayo/Guillory doesn't see a huge hole in USC team, does Mayo instead follow his buddy Bill Walker to K-State as planned? Also remember that if Huggins doesn't take the WVU job, Mayo goes to K-State. And does Floyd still want Mayo? The official story is that Mayo contacted Floyd through Guillory, Floyd is flabbergasted, Mayo visits, Floyd lays on the charm, and viola!, OJ Mayo is a Trojan. Who knows how it really went down. But if Francis were still on the team, how hard does Floyd/USC go after Mayo?
Whether USC's B-Ball days will come really depends upon what the NCAA does, because if USC is hit hard, and Garrett remains as AD, USC will cede so much recruiting ground to UCLA and Arizona and perhaps Cal, let alone the Kansas's and North Carolina's to cherry pick the top local recruits, that it will be at least a decade before the program recovers (perhaps less time if Garrett resigns and USC hires an AD who actually understands how to build a basketball program).

You are making a common mistake that USC/Floyd are essentially a single party, when, in fact, their ultimate interests are in conflict. Floyd is looking out for Floyd (and after the numerous "last job I'll ever have" quotes, the "Stay true to your school" team dinner speech, then, the next day, to fly to Tucson, to believe that Tim Floyd is loyal to anyone else than Tim Floyd isn't kool-aid drinking, is brainwashing). And well he should, because the outcome of this case hinges on whether Floyd will ever be employed in a major DI program again.
USC isn't saying anything because school don't comment during an impending investigation. And USC is looking out for USC, which might entail throwing Floyd under the bus.
So then Floyd vehmently and publically denies Johnson's story? First, he'll start an Internet-fueled rumor and innuendo frenzy that will make the Mike Price/SI/Stripper story seem like a C-SPAN press release.
Also if the NCAA releases findings that are anything less than Floyd's version, Floyd's credibility, what litle of it is left, could be damaged beyond repair. Best for Floyd to shut up, pretend he believes in the NCAA process, wait for the report, then respond depending on what the conclusions are and whether or not if he wants to coach a DI program again.
At the root of all this is Mike Garrett. If he knew anything about college basketball, if he was wasn't so arrogant when Majerus pulled out that he could admit at leaqst to himself that USC men's basketball under his watch was not job in high demand among elite coaches, if he didn't believe that lightning strikes twice (Pete Carroll II), if he had done his due diligence and learned that Tim Floyd has an NCAA rule named after him, that both Chicago and New Orleans could not see him leave town fast enough, he never would have been hired seriously considered, let alone hired.

LAWYERJOHN...just for the record, although I will enjoy watching usc basketball dwindle back to their Sports Arena days after the NCAA verdict, I think it is better for the Pac-10 to have a strong usc and always like watching the close games the past couple of years. Also, Dohn doesn't kick anti-UCLA people off his blog, he just asks that people don't make personal attacks on posters or writers. While Scott Wolf may enjoy jabbing Trojans fans at times, Dohn is actually very unbiased.

USC's basketball future is trashed and you should be feeling mighty full of yourself. Please feel free to gloat in your victory, how sweet it must be for you. I agree with your analysis that the Ryan Francis tragedy and the emotional response that followed has a lot to do with our current sorry state of affairs. While Floyd will lose his job, Mike Garrett will survive to hire a decent coach that will bring us back sooner than you think. Remember, the great Michael Cooper is already on campus. In the meantime guys like LJ and me will continue to show up, they call it LOYALTY.
