Do you remember when USC always opened its season against the Dodgers in an exhibition at Dodger Stadium? Here's a picture from the 1986 game, attended by about 17,000.

Heck ya, SC beat the Dodgers at times. Baseball is predominately a one-man game, the pitcher, and if he is hot the team will be in the game. And recall how SC owned college baseball for many a year.
Now I wouldn't give a college basketball or football team a chance against a pro team, although when they had the college all-stars versus the NFL champion back in the day, the college boys won a couple.

I remember in 60-70s we had some very good Trojan teams. I actually remember going to a Dodger vs USC Exhibition game at the Stadium on the tail end of Spring training with a crowd there of over 50,000. USC actually won that game. The catch was that most of the Dodger players were guys (subs) who were ready to be optioned to the Minor Leagues that next week.
The Dodgers and Giants would send teams also to play USC at Bovards Field on the campus late 60s early 70s just prior to Spring Training. Again most of the guys were Triple A Dodger players. You might see 1 of 2 of the regulars there. I remember Ron Fairly a Dodger being at one of the games. Then again he was a USC Alumni.

About Inside USC
Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC
graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for
the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet
message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this
moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in
antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
