UCLA 5, USC 4
The No. 1-ranked Trojans are upset in the NCAA championship game. It was 5-3 at halftime and neither team had any offense in the second half. To make matters worse, the women's tennis team was upset today by Washington in the NCAA second round at Marks Stadium.

Seriously, who cares? Women's sports don't mean a thing. Especially since FUCLA has more women's championships than we do.
Dang, we go oh-for-two this weekend. Makes me ashamed to be a Trojan. Not only does UCLA have a better university, they have a better athletic program top-to-bottom than us. Thanks for the double-choke.

The tradition continues....another NC to go with your Women's program. Oh, what's the number of Men's Football NCs? That's right, 1/2....in 1954. Congrats.
I'm sure women's sports mean a great deal to the Women of Troy. Way to belittle their efforts in order to get a dig in at UCLA.
As for UCLA having a better athletic program top-to-bottom, that must be why a UCLA win against USC in women's water polo is considered an upset and why USC's men's volleyball team was playing for an NC while UCLA's team was nowhere to be found.
Big fight on to both Coach Vavic (whose men's and women's water polo teams are perennial title contenders) and Coach Ferguson (who's returned men's volleyball to national prominence).
Just a couple of questions for you Jon.
1. Does a Sparks championship equal a Lakers championship?
2. Does a winner of the LPGA Dinah Shore equal a Masters Victory?
3. When a mare beats a stallion, is it an upset?
4. Would you rather have tickets to UCLA's women's softball games or USC baseball? Wait, dumb question.
Whether you like it or not, men's sports are much more popular. fucla counts the women's as equal to men's. Total baloney.
If you're comparing just the popular sports, then no, women's sports aren't as important (assuming popularity = imortance). If you're comparing entire athletic programs, then yes, women's sports are just as important. (That said, it's tough to compare programs when schools don't field the same number of teams and when interest in specific sports vary widely by region).
Would you think it was such baloney if USC had more women's titles than UCLA? If you want to limit the discussion to football, men's basketball and baseball (I suppose), that's your prerogative. But it's disappointing that you're seemingly more interested in taking swipes at UCLA than supporting our ladies.
As an SC alum, I love and support nearly everything about my alma mater. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
I love SC as much or maybe even more than you. But you can't tell me that you are as happy with Women's Golf winning the NC as you would be with Men's Volleyball.
To put women's titles in the same league as men's is baloney. That is not to diminish women, but name one record in any sport where women have beaten men. Doesn't happen. So for fucla to count Women's Softball in the same vain as their Men's Basketball is a joke. Or to compare them with any of our Men's programs. If you want to, so be it. I don't.
Great to see classy Trojan fans supporting their athletic teams all the way. I'm sure you would've reacted with the same "indifference" if USC had beaten UCLA.
Tell your daughters not to play sports, because apparently what they do doesn't matter.
As a Trojan, I am saddened by some of my fellow Trojans trashing womens' sports. My daughter plays high school softball and I will allow NO ONE to trash her efforts. To do so is Neanderthal and bigoted. Grow up and support your teams or get the hell out. You clowns are not members of my Trojan family.
Give me a break WD. Women's sport are NOT equal to Men's. In any way. Name one sport where the women are equal to men? You going to tell me Women's NC's are the same as Men's? You need to grow up. As far as me getting the hell out, FU.
What a woman-hating douchebag you are. I guess you never stepped foot on the USC campus as no one that dumb is allowed. Women's sports are different, dumb ass. They are not the same and cannot be compared. You're the one who needs to grow up you insulting bastard.

If that is so, why are all the NC's counted at Fucla? Unlike you, I am an Alum. FU. Bet you have a license frame holder too. What a dbag. BTW, you don't have to hit submit twice, you stupid ahole.
OK, let's lower the volume and get a few things straight. Yes, I graduated in '77, before you were born. I know you are a very young alum and you obviously don't have a daughter. Believe me, if you did, you wouldn't be talking this way. I'm not raising her to stay in a garden. Next, ALL schools count their women's NCs, including us. We have about 90 or so overall titles with an additional 20 non- NCAA titles. (See the USC athletics site under "traditions.") SC has the most men's, Stanford the most women's and UCLA the most NCAAs overall with (really) Arizona State having the most NCs with about 138--mostly from discontinued non-NCAA sports. I also agree that football and men's basketball are king--no question there. But I'm passionate in that I have a daughter who is a varsity athlete as a high school freshman. I also did a post-doc thesis on Title IX during its infancy. While football should be exempt as there is no female corolary, women had gotten the short end of the stick for too many years and had too few opportunities vis-a-vis the men. You don't have to like their sports or even follow them but at least acknowledge their opportunities and show a little pride when they win for our school. Sure it's not football but it's still a championship and better us than them. Fair enough?
Sort of. Let me tell you something. Class of 73. NC in 72. I love women's sports, but it is total BS to count them the same as Fucla. Period. I wouldn't count SC's in that number. And yes, women's gets the short end of the stick....just as gymnastics (which SC dropped), and field athletes. Unfortunately, it comes down to money. We also don't get credit for all the football NC's, which is also BS, but so be it. The bottom line: We are SC. Pals?
Absolutely! Time for the 901--great burgers there. My freshman year was 1972--after you walk on the moon what's left? But I've only missed two home games since then anyway and also knew the rats in the Sports Arena by name. I really agree that we don't get credit for all football NCs and we were finally heard with the 1939 team. My pet project is the 1940 Helms champion basketball team. I even got Pete Arbogast to help but the University won't consider it at this time even though Stanford, Kentucky and North Carolina recognize theirs. Iron Mike doesm't want to touch this one even though the players are dying out. I really appreciate your input and I'm sorry that this got a bit overheated. Fight On and go 1940 Trojans!
