In Pringle's LAT story..."USC general counsel Carol Mauch Amir says it is Sample's policy not to comment on NCAA probes. In response to repeated inquiries by The Times, Mauch Amir said in a written statement that the university has been "vigorously investigating" all the allegations with the association and Pacific 10 Conference, and that the cooperative effort has included joint interviews with nearly 50 witnesses."
That's a lot of witnesses. Scott, do you think that Sample and the Trustees have ordered an internal investigation of the entire athletic dept since the NCAA combined its investigation into an institutional control case, and this broader, internal review may be a reason why external communication has been so minimal from Heritage Hall?
A: The reason external communication is minimal is because the NCAA prefers schools not speak during this period of an investigation. I believe USC's mostly sat in on interviews with the NCAA and Pac-10, so I don't know how vigourous it's participation is. But I believe the growing concern and recent publicity has led Sample to become much more irritated over the situation and it would not surprise me if he steps in and does something if the NCAA does find wrongdoing.

Wolfie- What other college football publications/websites do you read regularly?
A: I read Lindy's magazine, of course, since I have written several articles. I also look at Phil Steele for the sheer volume of information it provides. Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports also does a good job in the offseason keeping up on national events.

Who is in charge of the Trojan Marching Band's outdated halftime shows? Not too long ago, the show consisted of the band being joined by KC of KC and the Sunshine Band, for heaven's sake? What is this, 1978? Do we really need to hear the band playing "Shake Your Booty" while KC actually does shake his booty? Can't they just come into the 21st century and have a halftime show with Girls Aloud? Who wouldn't want to see those girls shake their booties?
A: Art Bartner, who celebrates his 40th year at USC in 2010, and is supposed to have a statue built on campus for the occassion.
