More USC-Hawaii Games

| | Comments (10) |

In case you had not heard earlier today, USC and Hawaii will play each other to open the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The 2012 game is at the Coliseum while the 2013 game is in Honolulu.
The date of the 2010 opener with Hawaii was moved from Sept. 4 to Sept. 2 and will be shown on an ESPN station.
Great news for those you who enjoyed all the non-competitive meetings between the teams in the past 10 years, and that was with June Jones as the coach. USC is 6-0 against Hawaii.

Wolfie- I don't remember the exact reason, but a few years ago USC was able to add an extra game to their schedule because they played Hawaii. Is that still the case?

There are going to be "non-competitive meetings" on every schedule. For example - SC vs. Notre Dame, SC vs. UCLA...

Just remember, during the 90s, Fresno State was gracious enough to schedule us.

We play Hawaii cause us alumni need a reason to make an extra trip to the islands every now and then. A long weekend in Honolulu to catch the game and then off to the Big Island.

Bosco, I believe that was the Freedom Bowl. It's also one of the reasons marquee programs don't like to attend lower tier bowl games...think Las Vegas Bowl...

Uh, Bosco, Fresno State didn't "schedule" us. That was a bowl game. Nice try.

Cheat,

Good point. For example, "marquee" program Wyoming put it all on the line and almost lost to UCLA.

What's the beef with scheduling Hawaii? After all, who is competitive with us other then Oregon State and Stanford? This team played in a BCS bowl just two years ago and they are certainly a more worthy opponent then most of the directional schools that show up on many other teams schedule. Sure, I would rather play LSU or Florida but when they won't return our calls what are we supposed to do?
