Why has no suggested Mike Garrett lose his job? I appreciate all he means to USC, but seriously, he lucked into Pete Carroll (who I remember being hired while I was there. I loved the hire because I was just pumped that USC was getting a "pro" coach AND I couldn't stand Hackett's style). I remember everyone talking about Mike Belotti and Dennis Erickson and how Garrett couldn't get anyone USC wanted. Anyway, Carroll single handedly saved Garrett's job.
Meanwhile, all the other "important" programs are festering. ESPN just mentioned how USC has won the most NCAA baseball championships (12). When was the last time that happened? Same for basketball - we have had some decent success (Scal's Elite Eight run, Sam Clancy's team, the 3 straight tourneys), but for USC, we should have higher standards. Garrett should have had a tighter watch on the programs and making sure they are successful AND clean.
Just wondering if I am the only one thinking this. As for the KO hiring - I hate it. USC will get dinged either way so hire the best possible coach. What is Eric Musselman? He seems like a pretty interesting comparison to Pete Carroll.
There are plenty of us who have asked for Garrett to resign or be fired if you look at some of the other USC sport boards. Surprised O'Neill was given a five year contract, wonder the salary amt., and any out clauses before the term ends. Decent hire for two or three years max. while sanctions handed down, but a better coach needed for the future longevity of the program. Running off to Belgrade a day after official hiring to talk to returning player is ridiculous while U.S. recruits defecting.
