Sanchez Signs
Mark Sanchez signed a five-year contract with the New York Jets today worth nearly $30 million guaranteed. Not bad for someone who was told he made a mistake when he turned pro in January.

About Inside USC
Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC
graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for
the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet
message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this
moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in
antagonizing the "Internet geeks."

The Donkey says Scott is misstating the issue. Mark was never told he could not sign a big contract.
Pete Carroll never said he wouldn't make money. He was speaking of his future success, saying it would be better if he returned for his senior year. His point was guys who leave early have a lower level of success than those who stay.
I find it interesting that Scott is taking a shot at Carroll as it relates to Sanchez. I remember a time, about a year ago, when Scott was rooting for Mitch Mustain to start over Sanchez. You know, the whole "Mitch and Me" debacle.
Right.
And, besides, if he had been drafted higher after a successful senior season he might have made another $10 or $20 million on his initial contract. Didn't that kid from the Eagles get abougt $50 mil?
Of course, as someone once said, how much better can you eat, how much better can you live after about
$5 million. But then again some houses cost $30 million, so what do I know?
Didn't this happen awhile ago? I remember a joke about him getting 5 million per ab.
Let it go SW!!!!!!
money is not only issue. Maybe he is still not ready.
Ok. Tex. Fl. Qb may have gotten more, but they chose alma mater teammates and history. I don't see them complaining. The Mannings didn't complain either.
Sanchez knew it was a 3 yr wait when he arrived and would get job for two years in return for college education, development and coaching. He didn't honor his deal.
You guys will never admit that PC's behavior at Mark's presser was a complete embarrassment. Sheesh.
Reports from New York sports writers have said that Mark Sanchez is progressing at the same pace as every rookie quarterback that works their way into a starting role. Although he wasn't a starter until his final year (which was a year more than Matt Cassel, who's doing ok for himself), he was in the system for four years, I'm not sure how much of a difference one more year would make.
Speaking of which - Sanchez made a commitment for four years, not for two years as starting quarterback. If that was the case, people should be pissed at Cassel for not giving at least two more years.
He honored his commitment.
PC's behavior was out of line. But that's over. In fact, he admitted it. But here's the real key now. $anchez MIGHT have gone higher and received $10M more next year...like the #1 pick. BUT...BUT he's in freaking NEW YORK! If I had it, I'd pay MORE than $11M NOT to live in Detroit! Not to mention all the endorsements $anchez will get in NY. How many players from Detroit can you name that have done well with indorsements? $anchez hit the jackpot. Couldn't happen to a nicer kid.
Sanchez made the right decision,& the best decision for his future. The only thing he owed PC,& his ex-teammates was all out effort, proper preparation,& good game performances on saturdays.
