The Other Side

For most fans, forward Derrick Williams' decision to get released from his letter is only viewed as a loss to USC. But look at it from his point of view. He is about to graduate from high school today and has about two weeks to select another college after thinking he took care of that situation last fall.
He might end up at a bigger basketball program but he won't have the luxury of having the time to do all the normal things a recruit does before making a decision.

He deserves no empathy from me

The first post is a perfect example of the U$C fan.
Narcissism at its finest. Here is an 18 year old kid whom made the biggest decision of his life (misguided as it may have been) to attend U$C. After the decision, the program goes in total disarray and all the promises made to him are essentually yanked from under him. A last place finish in the Pac-10 is all but assured and you people begrudge him for leaving....
Pathetic!

The first poster could have been an example for others........Oh yea, he is and example of you and yours....

Pot, meet TruBruin. TruBruin, meet Pot.

You could be an example to the rest of your kind by staying over on Dohn's blog and not trolling over here. The level of hatred over there is impressive, but despite that, I didn't see any USC supporters trolling over there.

Interesting, isn't it?

The second post is a perfect example of the UCLA fan.

If kids transfer, can't get a transcript from a local Junior College, they weren't good enough for Westweird to begin with.

If a kid get in trouble with the law, the gutless little boo-boo bears say it's OK, he made a mistake, even though he is charged with 5 counts of sexual harrasment.

If their football team is the laughingstock of the Pac-10, they'll claim it's because everybody else cheats, and that high-and-mighty UCLA has admission standards harder than anybody else in the entire universe.

Harvey Two-Face must be president of the Tru Bruins Fan Club.

Bruins are concerned about the integrity of the Pac-10 so we are following the implosion at USC to determine if it will have any adverse impact on the other Pac-10 schools. if a house in one's neighborhood is on fire, shouldn't one go out to observe and make sure there is no opportunity to assist and to make sure the fire does not impact your neighborhood more than it needs to?

however, Dohn deals only in facts, not rumor. and since USC will not tell the truth about any of the numerous scandals, Dohn has few facts to report, ergo, we need to come to Wolf's intrepid blog to observe and report.

Bruin fans take no pleasure in the collapse of the USC basketball program or the imminent collapse of the football program, we are just concerned about the reputation of the Pac-10, and to determine if there is any opportunity of assist USC if needed. how can that be wrong, when it feels so right?

I won't even touch upon the hypocrisy of the SUCLA roaches, it is just so transparent.

These losers just love that SC is going through precarious times because they don't have anything else going on over there at Westwood Boulevard Tech.

It is the ugly step-sister getting off on the fact that the beautiful older sister caught a cold before her prom.

But don't gloat 'roaches, and don't fret, Trojans, because the Trojans' 'cold' will soon pass.

DFWTrojan Author Profile Page said:

D-Wil should choose his school based on more factors than just the coach: academics, location, tradition, career network, etc. If he chooses a school solely for the coach, then he has put himself in this precarious situation. However, I predict that D-Wil will still come to USC after he meets new Coach Dixon or Coach Theus.

Topher Author Profile Page said:

Charlie, the problem is that no one knows the truth about any of the scandals--including, in all likelihood, USC itself.

The facts that are known are pretty simple:

1. Floyd made a mistake allowing Guillory anywhere near the program--but the NCAA investigated Guillory and Mayo prior to his signing with USC and gave the OK.

2. Floyd's been accused by an unreliable source with something to gain of a rather unbelievable story about a public pass of a cash-filled envelope.

3. The Bush investigation has gone on for 3.5 years with nothing to show for it. Everyone knows Bush's stepdad is a scumbag--the question is whether Bush or USC did anything wrong, and I haven't seen any proof of that. I've certainly seen some grey-area stuff, like Bush taking a short-term loan from one of his stepdad's business associates to cover a hotel room, but, having seen similar things with other student-athletes and slap-on-the-wrist punishments, this is hardly a "lack of institutional control" issue by itself. Considering that USC had lawyers and compliance officials meet (in a special meeting) with Bush's mom and stepdad before the season to tell them what they could and couldn't do, I'm not quite sure what else USC could have been reasonably expected to do.

So, frankly, going off rumors really doesn't help anything at all. I don't know if UCLA has the same problems with agent's runners USC does (probably, but not at the same level due to the current disparity in the talent levels in the football programs), but that would be the area where both schools should work together--sharing information to keep these scumbags from screwing things up.

Yeah, we want to beat you, but it's better to beat you while you're up than to kick you while you're down.

Desmo Author Profile Page said:

The integrity of the Pac-10? Because your school hired a coach who coddled and enabled a rapist? O.K.

Dohn deals only in facts, not rumor?

What bullcrap. Bruins cannot handle criticism, any, from anyone. Murshed bans people like Stalin, so does BRO, and Dohn, because Bruins are so freakin' sensitive. Wolf has a come one, come all policy, and so does, for the most part, other Trojan blogs.

Trojan fans don't go over to UCLA blogs because Trojan fans really don't care that much about UCLA. Sure, we like it when we whip your asses by three touchdowns in football and we don't like it when you beat us in basketball and would would generally prefer that every UCLA sports team loses every game played, for ever, but when that doesn't happen, we move on, quickly. We are USC fans, not Bruin haters. In the end you are no more or no less significant than, say, San Jose State. Just another school.

But UCLA can't leave us alone.

Since we are dealing with facts, did you know your fight song (melody ripped off from Cal since UCLA is essentially a satellite campus) specifically mentions USC? Interesting. It's like UCLA exists only as a counterpoint to USC, kind of like how anti-matter exists.

Maybe that's why there are no real UCLA fans, just USC haters. Maybe that's why you have to frequent hate sites, like Murshed's webpage. Which is fine, it's no fun if everyone loved us.

But I don't recall any UCLA reference in USC's fight song. Because we really don't care about you. Sorry, it's just the way it is.

In the end, Charlie, it's all about USC. That's why you troll here, because it's not about UCLA, it never was, and never will be. Murshed tries to pretend it's "justSC", but no matter how many times he writes that, you know it's not true. It's all about USC.

You just can't quit us.

Well said Topher.

Nothing has been presented that has connected USC to the people Bush was allegedly accepting gifts from. Shooting for the "lack of institutional control" tag is absurd. They can't babysit parents.

IMO Floyd got what he deserved by being so careless. In the end it caught up with him. However, there is no way he was stupid enough to hand over an envelope filled with cash in a public place in LA. Not a chance.

UCLA doesn't have problems with agents, but from what I hear they do have a bunch of Arena League runners offering their players 2-for-1 lunches at the local Hometown Buffet.

DFW:

I do like your blind passion, but sometimes, actually, too many times, you are so, so wrong. And this is one of those times.

Elite high school b-ballers choose the coach, not the school. Do you honestly believe that kids would choose Louisville or Memphis or Kansas regardless of the coach.

Why is it so hard for you (as well as others) to believe that Derrick Williams, or Lamont Jones, or Matt Barkley or Kevin Love or Vontaze Burfict chose their schools based on cold, calculating "business" reasons instead of "bleeding cardinal & gold or bleeding blue and gold" crap. They want careers as professional athletes, they are going to the school that they believe will be most helpful in achieving that goal. It's not that much different than choosing a Law School or a Med School.

I agree with most of your points. However, fUCLA means more to USC than SJ St. The bRuins are still USC's biggest rival (except maybe when the Irish and Trojans play in football). The rivalry has lost some of its luster given fUCLA's inability field a competitive football team (2006 notwithstanding) in the last decade. Although not a fight song, Tusk certainly has a refrain for "UCLA Sucks!" Because, they do.

INSTITUTIONAL control
What is it:INSTITUTIONAL control a large organization that is influential in the community, e.g. a college, hospital, or bank to exercise power or authority over something such as a business or nation
But in the sense that a school can’t control anyone or thing outside of its institution, why because the world is not bound buy it. How can USC control what the Bush family does on its own time with or without their child. This an outside source and the Ncaa can not expect the schools to control it it is not legal for one thing. I could see if the someone at USC introduced these people to the Bushes but they didn’t that all happened in San Diego probably way before Reggie even enrolled at SC.
So sorry BN and others wanting the world to come down on SC but it might but shouldn’t oh and BTW: Your tennis player was paid by a BOOSTER in which is Lack of Institutional control.

Partially true, Des, but some athletes do choose based on academics, location, etc. And, many parents influence their kids decision on these factors. D-Wil is not a one & doner and should make his selection partially based on academics. I know they don't all do, maybe few do, but some do. See Frankie Telford's explanation for choosing USC.

For the record, DFW, I think Derrick Williams should stick it out. He's local, and he'll see playing time.

As for Momo, he's an Oak Hill guy, talented, but not really thrilled with Oak Hill guys, he is the type that could hurt the APR even more. Noel Johnson's from out of state, can't blame him for bailing.

Pretty good repartee between the SUCLAs and Trojans on the SC blog today. But I don't think the operative word is "hate" to describe the usual fan's sentiments towards the opposing school. More like that German word that defines how one gets great enjoyment from another's misery.

Allow me to illustrate: The 1998 SUCLA-Miami game where SUCLA needs a victory to get into the national championship game which they probably would have won. I had never rooted for Miami in my life, but that day I was its biggest fan when they beat SUCLA at the very end.

As we say in my parts-- BRUINS SUCK

Just sayin'

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
