About Inside USC
Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC
graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for
the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet
message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this
moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in
antagonizing the "Internet geeks."

Now if only Coach Carroll would stop being so enamored with the idea of starting a true freshman.
A few points to ponder....
1. 11 practices
2. projected starting QB injured
3. incoming freshman QB gets 99% of reps w/1st team
4. 3rd string QB making huge noise, maximizing his opportunities w/2nd team
All of the publicity around "who" will be the starting QB has been manufactured by
the" elephant in the room" that no one wants to talk about. WOW!
It appears that the motives of this head coach for the last 3 yrs is to create celebrity status in a collegiate environment. According to Coach C, QB #1 emerged as a starter for his ability to comprehend the offense and run(gonna be tough after this injury to be mobile at the outset)..QB#2 has been given the keys to one of the most dominate programs in the last decade, according to ESPN,with NO D1 game experience...while the future may look extremely bright for this QB he should be measured in the same format as all the greats that have gone before him. It is apparent to assess the productivity of all three QB's, at this point in time, ALL must be given EQUAL amount of reps with first team to allow for true competition and separation. With one QB injured and another receiving 99% of the reps are we not exposing ourselves to the inevitability that our only experienced QB has not had adequate reps with the first team. Due to the nature of the sport, every team in the country faces the possibility that the QB is one play away from a season ending injury. The recent reports that the coaches are trying to obtain "film" on QB #2 is rhetoric and an insult to all the Trojan faithful who watch closely.
I am not a statistician however, we are not a struggling program in the PAC 10. So we are NOT looking for someone to "SAVE" the program. There is something to be said about consistency, loyalty and commitment.
I strongly agree with the above comments.
Barkley may very well be the QB of the Trojans' future. He does not seem ready now. Yet, PC has, thus far, handed him the keys to the present. He has not been exposed to the same level of learning curve as the other, quite successful QBs in SC's past. Any fan of USC football knows this.
Meanwhile, the struggles of Mustain in the spring have been used to demote him to third string. There were comments that the competition was not over and he would get another shot in the fall.
What's going on? PC supposedly believes in open and zealous competition, not blind favoritism. It's time to see what Mustain can do with the first string.
SCiris, yeah, I pondered those thoughts about 10 posts ago, not sure I needed the reminder.
Some of these posts about Mitch - it looks like Mrs. Mustain got her internet connection back up and running.
Fight on!
SCiris.........I'm sure Carroll and the other coaches have their reasons. If they thought SC would be better with Mustain they would start him. They obviously don't believe in Mustain.
Hey, people....why don't we let the coaches do what they do best....coach. They, and not the people on this board, know who should be starting. Let's see, seven straight Pac-10 titles and seven straight BCS Bowls; I guess Pete can handle the job.
Of course, the Bruin trolls who live on this board because they don't have a real football team, love to stir up the pot.
I actually do not have a favorite QB. I do want the Trojans to win another National Championship. PC makes a whole lot of money to be guessing who is who. Hence the humor that plays out in the fish wrap. Go Trojans!!!!!
I don't think Carroll is about to start a true freshman. I think he is "seizing the opportunity" as he loves to say, to show the entire country that when you come to USC you will be given a shot. Also, it is important to note that Barkley had a pretty good week and then Carroll wratched up the pressure with pushing the DB's to step up and not let a freshman embarass them. This puts things into perspective for young Barkley and all the kids that want to come to USC and compete. You have to be bring it every day or you will get swallowed by the beast. He is breeding competition and making the entire team better.
It's sort of liking running a missile drill when there is a fire in the galley on a nuclear submarine.
Keith15...would you have knowledge of submarine galley fire drills and missile alarms and going to condition 1SQ? Anxious to find out,
Thanks,
Gilly
