Hi Scott, in your view, has PC violated any "open competition" or other principles he espouses by announcing that Barkley is the starting QB for more than one game (implying that a healthy Corp would sit)?
Thanks
A: I don't really think the whole ``open competition'' was followed with the quarterback situation. I'm not for or against either quarterback, but as someone told me last night, the decision seemed to be deliberately announced before Aaron Corp was fully fit (more than a week before the opener), so that there could be no choice involved. And though I'm no coach, I find it interesting that the interception ratio can be 17-2 between the quarterbacks and that seems to make no difference.

Scott, what is your response to this post by Ben Malcolmson on Barkley's perceived interception problem? http://www.usctrojans.com/blog/2009/08/barkleys-interceptions-laying-down-the-facts.html
A: This was one of the most ludicrous things I've ever read in my 15 years covering USC. Here's a good article that sums up my feelings.

With SJSU coming up, remind me, what ever happened to uber-recruit turned Spartan transfer Jeff Schweiger?
A: He played last season and graduated. I have not heard if he playing football any longer. He was a nice guy at USC and it was too bad he had to transfer, but he never really got much of a chance to play.

Jeff Schweiger was injury plagued of course and didn't catch on at Denver Broncos due to some of the lingering foot injuries. He may be still trying to heal up and take a shot. One thing you gotta admit SC seems to send every scholarship player that's healthy to the NFL even they don't stick around long. (Average NFL career is only like 3 years anyway, even when you count bench warmers and injured guys and don't include undrafted guys right? Can't be a great investment as a player if you are in it for the money.)
Jeff Schweiger had substance abuse issues while at USC and had more to do with his playing time, not the "never really got much of a chance to play." excuse.
In this case, it was a "him" issue, not a coaches biased thing. Now, MM on the other hand ...
