Blowout Comparison

Cal coach Jeff Tedford's lost 11 games by more than 11 points since 2002. USC coach Pete Carroll's lost once by 11 or more points since 2001.

And that was in Carroll's first year. And it was 11 points, not "or more".

This is one instance where Pete could learn from Tedford's "Usually Compete" philosophy. When you get blown out, you avoid all the criticism and second guessing that comes with a close loss. I doubt Tedford is fielding any questions this week about when he declared his starting QB, that 3rd down call before half, and a 4th and 2 that happened 4 years ago.

A loss by 39 counts the same as a loss by 3. Tedford is better at managing expecations than Carroll. And he'll have his boys ready to fight next week. Count on it!

Thanks for that JAG.

Tedford is, however, consistent in helping to ruin the Pac 10's reputation year in and year out.

One of the problems with the Pac 10 is that noboby has stepped up as a contender consistantly during Carroll's run at SC. SEC has LSU, Florida, and now Alabama. Big 12 has Oklahoma and Texas. Even the Big 10 has Ohio State, Michigan (except for last year) and Penn State. The Pac 10 doesn't have a consistant challenger. Cal seemed like it would be that team back after beating SC in 2003 but hasn't lived up to it. But every year there seems to be a different team. Two years ago it was ASU. Oregn has probably been the 2nd best team during Carroll's time.
