Sunday Night With Caesar
Pete Carroll said he was not as negative about the Trojans' overall performance against Washington after he watched the game films Sunday.
``After the game, it seemed like everything was wrong,'' Carroll said. ``That wasn't true. The defense, the running game, the pass protection, we did a good job. We produced nothing in the throwing game.''

So... basically Aaron Corp sucks.
Well, partially true. The running game was shut down when needed. I was in Seattle and some of the UW players were saying that they knew what plays were coming. It sure looked like it, especially in the passing game where are guys always seemed to be well-covered. Of course, Corp's brutal passing only exacerbated it.
Apparently he was watching a different game then the rest of us? SC played uninspired crap yesterday. I'm getting use to it as it seems to happen more often each season. PC has obviously lost his touch, needs to hire an offensive coordinator who is not 30 something and will stay. They are undiciplined at the line, constantly underacheive against inferior talent and the only one to blame is PC. He's been drinking his own coolaid for too long and a change may be in order soon.
New question same blog:
Sark and his 5 former USC coaches know SC well. In hind sight, my expectations for Corp were overblown-- an understatement. But he was up against more than rookie jitters, in a hostile environment, playing an important conference game. He was up against an opponent who had more than his play book. They knew the mind set and nuances of the the whole program. And PC and co. had the same advantage in reverse....and better players (QB the exception). Given those facts, Sark, out coached, out strategized, and left his mentor in the dust.
Corp may well become the poster boy for the "worst USC QB" ever. But before that happens,I would Iike to know, from the coaching staff, why his receivers were so easily covered. The d-backs were all over them...double coverage! Even when Corp completed a pass the coverage was tight. Why?..... My suspensions?..... To borrow a quote from General George Patton to General Rommel after he smoked his panzers in Africa, "I read your BooK"! Sark had PC's book memorized.
SC had them on the running game because the O-line is top in the country. Sark knew that he would have to stop SC with linebacking and and a tight d-back coverage. How it worked, he probably couldn't have imagined. Tight coverage unnerved rookie Corp and a couple fumbles unnerved everybody else. Nick Holt--Bring on the 8-man line and let the momentum carry us. By the way, Nick, not only read PC's book, he helped write it.
For several years we have assumed that all PC has to do is re-load. Maybe this year he has to re-build. Which takes time and patience, especially for the band- wagon fans. I'd like to see Corp rebound from this and contribute. And yes, see the wunderkind live up to PC's hype. And see SC be successful THIS year. But If the Trojans lose 3 or 4 games and go to a lesser bowl, yes, that would hurt and is certainly not USC normal. But if it makes them a better team, and in PC's "win always" relentless philosophy, a quality QB emerges and a running back who can run and hold on to the ball at the same time emerges. Fight On! 2010!
Congratulations To Sark and Nick. And to PC for a mentoring job well done. No sarcasm intended, really. To Chris Polk for changing his commitment to U-DUB, great game. Yea, Redlands! And to Corp. I thought all you had to do is show up and your talent would take care of the rest. But you were working against circumstances not associated with a normal game. USC 'Pride' showcases the Trojans armed with highly sharpened swords when entering the coliseums of college football....even Tommy Trojan is carrying a sword. Hopefully Aaron, if you ever get a chance, you'll be given your sword this time.........before you enter the battle. Thanks
Maybe I am an optimist but believe that any defense could eventually stop the run when they realize the passing game is impotent and move to an eight-in-the-box strategy.
well said fred, there is enough blame for everyone in what went wrong in Washington.
Gnossos while you're right for the most part you also spoke politically correct, allelujah... BTW mdjusc has identified the problem and the countermeasures, UHM? Barkley played hurt in front of a much more hostile crowd and he delivered the goods!
Mark looked pretty good yesterday against the Pats. Carson Palmer didn't do that bad, either. How about Steve Smith against those damn Cowboys(!)?
Good day!
Report: 35 million-plus worldwide have dementia
(A headline from AP this morning.)
And the most severe cases can be found commenting herein.
Washington shut down the running game after the first two series by putting 8 in the box and daring SC to beat them with the pass. They couldn't.
ESPN had just reported that Barkley and Mays probable for next Saturday. BTW what network is televising the game?
TC: exactly. When you have a QB that is throwing ducks and the other team knows it your running game is going to suffer. I've seen enough of Corp. If MB is unable to go again I'd like to see Mustain. At least he has an arm.
El Cap: its on FSW.
El Capitan - FSN is doing the WSU game at 7:15, ala the fucla/KSU game last weekend.
Everyone wants to compliment the defense, yet why is the secondary getting off free, going into a prevent defense with 3 dbs on one receiver, yet not one going after the ball. He catches it, game over. He doesn't, who knows, but three db's stood and played prevent and Locker completes a well-thrown ball, they get the field goal and the rest is spilt milk.
And as fred said above, their coaching staff knew the SC playbook better than Pete's coaches - why, they wrote it, remembered it, and no changes were made from last season.
Rocket science, well.....
Barney: that should be "commenting IN HERE" haha look at who is the demented one!
Cubano gracias, thanks Rick!
That was not a prevent defense. I looked like Cover 2. That is why the 15-17 yd route was open even with 3 guys there...Safety over the top, Corner underneath and LB coming from the hook/curl zone...it was a perfectly thrown ball.
Listen to Fred and learn...
UW and staff obviously outcoached the crap out of SC. There was a UW player waiting at the point of attack on virtually every offensive play after the 1st drive. Perhaps the 4 deep playbook at SC needs to be expanded a bit.
Corp or little Pete; everyone is gonna go 8 in the box like OSU & UW did. When you have linebackers basically blitzing every play don't you mix it up; traps, counters, screens, throws to the flat, quick outs, slants, etc. Didn’t see much of that Sat(?) (have they even set up 3 wides this season ever?)
If you need any confirmation that play calling is a huge problem (not just Corp and little pete) just look at that atrocity to end the first half. A running play w/18 seconds left and no time outs? You’re not gonna get your whole field goal unit in and set even if they do stop the clock to move the chains.
Corp underachieved; he is better than what he showed. But get in his brain for a sec. Pete waits till game time to let Corp know he’s ‘stuck’ sending Corp in – real confidence builder there. Then USC fumbles and bumbles, putting Corp in a bad spot. The only chance Corp had to ever play again was to blow the doors off with his throwing. Hard to do with Bates calling plays and UW blitzing and jumping all the routes. So he pushed too hard and made some bad throws. (BTW he also made some good throws) Notice they only called one running play for him the whole game(?) and virtually no roll outs(?)
Still, take a way 2 lost fumbles in scoring position and the blown field goal oppotunity and USC wins WITH Corp. Anyway, it all moot now. Corp will never set a big toe on Pete’s field again. Take it away little pete homers – and good luck.
