0 for 10 on 3rd downs.....looks like were missing Sark more than we thought...How many times is Batesy going to run that run to the right with Stafon on 3rd down? Bates is making Holt look like a defensive guru. Did Corp forget his moxy, brain, and half his right arm at the team hotel or did he lose that when he wasn't named the starter?

I can't tell if it is Bates' play calling or Corps suckiness, but it is clear that Aaron Corp is the worst USC QB since Reggie Perry.

one word....inevitable. I predicted we would have 2 losses this season and we already have #1......And if our offense keeps looking anemic like the last two weeks we will lose 3 or 4 games this year. I love PC and believe in him but when you have 2 new coordinators, a new QB, and terrible playcalling you have ugly games to watch like today. I hope Bates has a few more cups of coffee tonight and spend some more time figuring out how we can become a more balanced offensive team since EVERY opponent will put 8 or 9 guys in the box for the rest of the season until we show we have a QB with an arm and a brain and some recievers who can get open.(maybe the RCVRS should watch the UW recievers game tape from today on that)

I am a 30 year USC fan and at this point, I am done with it.

How can a team with every top player in the USA lose
to a glorified high school team that was 0-12 last year?

UCLA, Stanford, Washington..USC is the laughing stock of college football. It will be years and years before
we are considered for the NC again. If ever. Think of how far we have fallen since 2004/5.

Same as the losses vs. OSU, vs UCLA, vs. Stanford....penalties, turnovers..poor execution, waiting for the other team to lay down for mighty USC.

Now you can see why Pete Carroll lied to Mark Sanchez about where he would go in the draft in order to get him to stay for another year. Although certainly not in Mark's best interest, it made sense for Pete Carroll. This team with Sanchez would have been good enough for a NC. Without, it is a great team that will lose 2 or 3 more games.

Doesn't forgive Pete's actions, but makes them understandable, particularly when you factor in his narcissism.

The reason you haven't won since 2005 is PC's ego made him drive off Norm Chow, and you have never had an offense as good since.

If PC could have shared some credit, you would have had at least one more National Title. PC will only hire young untested coordinators to make sure they never get any credit. Until that happens, even with all the talent in the world you recruit, you aren't going to have a top notch offense.

silverlake-bruin: You're right about the mechanics, but not the evil you ascribe to Pete. He's a competitor and was thinking long term about his QB situation. He did not expect Sanchez to even consider going pro after just a year of starting.

You know, it's not right to hate on him, and I hope we'll stay classy here. That said, I hope MB7 has a speedy recovery. By chance, I hurt my right shoulder last weekend and still can't get comfortable to sleep without a couple Advil. I'm twice his age. But I can see how it doesn't just heal up overnight.

It's a shame because we still have a great D, but our offense is not explosive. The only truely explosive player we have is Fumbles McButterhands, and know we all about him.

Barkley, he made plays when he had to and didn't give up the ball in a do or die situation.

Corp -- he is not an NC caliber QB. He's not even a Holiday Bowl quality QB. He's a Western Athletic Conference QB who might lead a team to a lower tier bowl while running a gimmicky spread offense. But he's not a USC claiber QB. He is by far the worst USC QB in the Pete Carroll era, and maybe since Reggie Perry. Brad Otten, Kyle Wachholtz, Mike VanRaaphorst, alll are better QB's than Aaron Corp.

Didn't Fred or sep2010 or FSC write on this board that Corp should transfer and that he'd help prepare the papers. Well, I think a lot of people now hope Corp takes you up on his offer.

fred's right here desmo and the arrows are hitting their mark. The table was set and Corp was given every opportunity. PC even opened wide the play book and let it fly. Corp didn't have what it took to make it work. Forced passes into coverage mostly.....and yes.... nerves to. And now he will certainly have a long time to ponder it all, sitting on the far end of the bench.

But the Trojans showed a lot more weaknesses than Corp. Two fumbles inside the 15. and a dropped pass at the 10....Ausberry. And why were the receivers so well covered? It's one thing to see and then force passes into tight coverage - its another thing to be looking at tight coverage on most plays. Offensive Coordination ??

And what the hell is wrong with SC's secondary? I thought this was supposed to be strength? Receivers were wide open, especially over the middle.

Well Pete, I think you're a terrific coach. I hope you retire at SC. However, I do have some advice for your new O.C. Stop watching SportsCenter! Every time I see them talk about SC I hear how dominant the offensive line is. Please stop listening. They're NOT that great this year. Maybe later in the season they will be, but right now, they are so-so. Hopefully the 0-10, (or whatever it was), 3rd and 4th down conversion ratio will convince you to stop using them for every big play.

While they're learning, here's a tip... Look at the films and look at the only play in which you had the opportunity to win today's game, even after the half dozen turnovers. It was 3rd and what, 4-5-6 inside the 10? Wideouts split left. Everyone else seemingly crammed against the right sidelines... In this case, your BEST opportunity is to pitch the ball left to McKnight, and hope he can out-juke the 2 Huskie defenders. He probably has a 40-50% shot at it. Your best best is NOT to run the ball into the area occupied by the other 9 Huskies, who have already stopped you EVERY TIME, (that's all the time... each time you tried).

Hey, I realize it's a rebuilding year. The real Rose Bowl is only possible if Cal makes the National Championship Rose Bowl and you come in second. But I'll be happy to see you maul someone from the Big Ten in the Poulan Weed-Eater Chicken Lip What Would Jesus Do Bowl on December 28.

One last thing. If Aaron Corp can only throw the ball 12 yards when he needs 14 to reach his receiver, or if he can't throw a decent spiral at a wide open tight end on a critical play, how much worse can Matt do with a bad shoulder? Or Mustain (undefeated at Arkansas) who transfered from the SEC so he could be a Trojan?

Funny, we are blaming Bates. Sark called a great game today-with us he was not very good. Bates had a great rep in NFL, now at SC, he's no good.

Wow, rough rough rough watching Corp. Fewest passing yards by a QB under Carroll. That was just ugly. I know Corp was making his first start and all that... but that was pitiful and embarrassing. When I think back to all the times I criticized Booty I just laugh now. At least he could throw the ball down the field! I think we have to start thinking about next season and Barkley with a little more seasoning. No question we're headed back to the title game, it's just a matter of when.

Three turnovers in the red zone was the difference. And will somebody, anybody else acknowledge that not having Mays on the field allowed Locker to make some of those key passes?

moonliner........the O-line is fine. Look at the beginning of the game. After that Wash put 8 men up front to stop the run and make Corp beat them. He didn't. I'm suprised he only had one interception. I could have intercepted him the way he was locked onto the receiver.
And the secondary sucks. You can't play "bend-don't-break" defense when a field goal wins the game.

SC should have prepped Mustain. Don't know why he's been the odd man out but this time lack of real game experience showed. To put Corp in there first game was a mistake. Don't forget Taylor Mays was out too. So with both your offensive captain and your defensive captain out, it wouldn't have been easy.

Chow used to create plays that would utilize all the talents SC had on offense to create distractions and confusion for the defense.....
Now our playcalling looks more like the big/slow-10 conference, just line it up and lets see what happens. What happened to the bootlegs, play actions, quick slants, quick outs and misdirections etc of the past?
I am not jumping ship just because we lost, we lost because we had 3 TOs, a terrible QB, a very soft secondary that was always 1 step too slow and behind the play. Lets not be suprised about what happened today, it was basically the same as last week plus a few TOs AND we gave more credit to OSUs defense when in reality its our own lack of offensive strategy and execution.

list of reasons ChuckBuck was right and the cyberbullies were wrong:

1) as i stated at half, Greedy Petey's decision to not kick the field goal with no timeouts and try for the 1st down was disasterous, showed no time management and no respect for a game UDUB team and ultimatley cost him the tie and the game.
2) Greedy Petey's recluctance to name Corp starter earlier when it was clear MB7 was not ready resulted in corp playing like a 2nd fiddle afterthought...when the coach makes it clear he is holding out for his golden boy's miracle recovery, is it a surprise corp played with no confidence?
3) Greedy Petey's decision to write off Mustain already bit him in the can...here, he was down to choosing between a shell-shocked corp and an injured MB7 because he never gave Mitch a chance to practice or play. wow that blew up in Petey's face already, but no surprise to ChuckBuck.
4) ChuckBuck was on record as predicting a loss on the road to an unranked Pac10 team (that was an easy one)
5) and for the piece de la resistance, ChuckBuck's preciction for score was the closest. ChuckBuck wins!!!!!!

OK, now that we've figured out that Tweet Carroll was right about MB7 vs. Corp, maybe he is right about Mustain too. Guys, it all goes back to Oregon State last year. It was unprecedented for PC to demote two scholarship QBs for the week because they were just being screw-offs. When you're talking about the guys who are supposed to be the future offensive leaders of the team, that kind of thing usually isn't an aberration, it's a pattern. Coach knows that.

Trojan Conquest... I agree, the O line is "fine," but not dominant. They weren't last week either, only against that high school team from San Jose. And, if the O line is fine but they can't succeed at 5 on 8, I'll repeat myself, don't run a critical play behind a 5 on 8 that is 0 for whatever in conversions. Especially when you have all that speed. The coaches must believe those claims that it is the best O line in the country to try it again and again. We lost a bunch of studs to the NFL. Gonna be an 8-4 year. Next year Matt and a year together will have them back in the NC chase.

By the way, just saw the 49ers run into a 7 or 8 in the box for a 70+ yard TD. That OL did it's job. Our's apparently can't yet.

You played a highly motivated, very hungry, rapidly-improving team ... in their house in front of a hungry, enthusiastic, large, noisy home crowd ...

It's only the third game of the season. You played without some of your key players. You had two new co-ordinators. You were opposed by two very capable, motivational coaches who knew your roster and your playbook better than your own new coaching staff did.

UW beat you on hustle, desire, hard work, good coaching and great execution. PC is 90-14 since showing up @ USC, yet you guys can't throw him under the bus fast enough because you got ambushed by a "nobody". Any of you "long-time fans" remember that you were 33-31 in the four years prior to PC?

Hey, the alignment of events was perfect, you got outworked and outplayed by a highly-motivated, improving team and a coaching staff that had you in its sights and had the element of surprise. Fortunately, most people realize that the fan base of your football team is quite broad - not comprised solely of students and alumni of USC. It would be a discomforting to think the quality of discussion here was in any way reflective of the quality of a USC degree.
