Sitting on the bench. They believed Pete Carroll when he said it was better to compete than actually play.

Luckily for Mark Sanchez, he was smart enough to see through Pete Carroll's selfishness.

They were thrown out along with three-quarters of the playbook.

CJ Gable-still in the doghouse from Rose Bowl and learning that PC never forgets turnovers and poutiness unless your name is Joe or Matt

Blake Ayles-Learning that its best to skip class, grow your hair out and save your playing energy on the bench than waste your energy and never get any balls your way like A McCoy does

De'Von Flourney-was he a deep threat? Oh it doesn't matter, we have RoJo...oh wait he's out...Flourney is learning patience and taking lots of spanish courses in an attempt to learn the incredibly complex PC offense that the starting 11 players can't even figure out, which is why the offense has 2 TDs in 2 games.

Jordan Cameron-Cameron is an All-American WR on Ben Malcomson's blog each week in practice with such incredible leaping abilities but sadly the only route he knows how to run on gameday is the one that leads to the bench on the sideline.

And that's my unbiased take on what happened to these "studs" that get forgotten on the sidelines (using a PC adjective)

When did Hue Jackson return?

Easy answers Scotty:

CJ Gable - doesn't have the power of Johnson/Bradford or the breakaway and pass catching skills of McKnight. And he fumbles just as much if not more. (This is my favorite though....You only use two running backs and coach gets grilled for not playing guys....Play a bunch of guys and coach gets grilled for not letting anybody get a rhythmn.)

Blake Ayles - McCoy is a better blocker and has played well to this point.

De'Von Flournoy - First of all, does a deep threat matter when Aaron Corp couldn't reach him if he was open? Second is he really better than the guys playing ahead of him. (Put it this way...back in the Mike Williams/Dwayne Jarrett, Keary Colbert, Steve Smith years, does anyone even remember who the fourth receiver was?) I would argue to use McKnight before any of 4 and following anyway!

Jordan Cameron - was a pass-dropping machine when I went to practice...and that was without defense. Do you really think he is better than Williams, Ausberry, Butler, Patterson, Carswell?

Perhaps USC has too many studs on offense for their own good. Let a few players get the ball more often. Develop a few go-to guys, so they can be consistent.

Maybe that's a better strategy. Along with recruiting a few 3 star guys who will fill in the roles as needed, without feeling left out, and let the stars shine.

@ White Horse Too funny! I was thinking the same thing. Wasn't he called innovative back in the day?

Yes, it does matter. It doesn't matter if you ever throw to the guy, when you have a speed burner on the outside, the defense has respect that, which creates space for the underneath stuff and the running game. When you don't have speed on the outside, it allows the safety to look in and creates small holes close to the line of scrimmage. Just ask the NY Giants, who haven't been the same since losing speedster Plaxico Burress.

What about Curtis McNeal? He was one of the top players in spring practice.

PJH, Johnson/Bradford's "power" really helped us move the chains, didn't it? There were great on 3rd down. Actually, I thought that Allen played really well. Stafon had his usual handful of solid runs, combined with several missed blocks and missed holes. Joe had his usual schizophrenic game - really good and really bad. The fact is that CJ is the most versatile, consistent, game breaking threat on the team. Oh yeah, he also has the most starting experience. I recall him starting as a true frosh in a Rose Bowl for us. And, he is top 10 in all-time KO returns at SC.

Right, Gable isn't good enough to help the team?!? Maybe you should join the coaching staff too.

Yes...and he did jack squat in that Rose Bowl. We were tied at 3 at the half because we couldn't run. Then we threw all but 3 plays in the second half and blew out Michigan. CJ Gable has nothing to do with that Rose Bowl.

And who were the running backs we remember from the Illinois Rose Bowl? Joe McKnight and Stafon Johnson

So give the CJ has starting experience thing a rest.
