Oregon State's got plenty of local players with a chip on their shoulder because USC ignored them.

There's one sure thing about this game: Jackass, or someone with a similar name will not run all over us like last year. lol.

How could you miss (or refuse to report?) that O'Dowd was being benched with Byers sliding over and Butch Lewis starting at guard ? Benching an All American candidate is a worthy story don't you think ?

This is huge news and I have seen nothing about it during this week's reporting by you.

I am addicted to your non stop coverage of everything related to USC football so this one surprises me a bit.

OK, so no one's perfect....not even the great Scott Wolf.

These kids are the perfect example of how competitive it is in every single game in this conference. You look at the media guides from Pullman to Tucson and it is almost 80% kids from California, and a vast majority of those from Southern California. These conference games are not just rivalries they are all out wars on so many fronts. I know they have similar things in the SEC, Big 12 and Big 10, but it isn't the same. These kids know each other. The talent pool isn't as wide, but it is exponentially deeper. This is what makes it so much fun to watch.

Couldn't you say that about every Pac 10 team? Also WAC and Mountain West teams. Practically every kid on the West Coast wants to play for the Trojans. And the ones who don't would still like to be wanted by the Trojans.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
