Does anyone think Chris Galippo has not completely replaced Rey Maualuga after five games?

Rey who? No, seriously, Chris doesn't hit as hard (who does?), but he's much more disciplined and instinctive. And, Michael Morgan has got to be the fastest LB that we've had. Anyone know his splits?

DFW - perfectly said. I sincerely don't think Scott Wolf understands football. Chris' pick against Ohio State was more impressive athletically than any of Rey's picks during his career.

Chris has been great!

kellfire4, Scott seems to be saying that he thinks Galippo is playing at the same level or even better than Maulaluga.

Rey Rey was a beast. He still is. Chris is a smarter player. Rey is a better dancer.

Rey is probably going to be a better NFL linebacker than Galippo, but Galippo is already better than Rey ever was at USC. Galippo is definitely more in the mold of Tatupu: great instincts, disciplined, and solid in pass coverage. I will always wonder whether Rey and Cushing were in the wrong positions at USC.

Kuhn, I realize this. I just hate whoever runs this site. Passionately.

They do have one thing in common, they both have names that are frequently mispronounced.

Gallupo seems like an excellent player...but no one, i repeat, no one, can replace Fata-luga as the pre-eminent cheap-shoting, dirty-dancing, sucker-punching, i-own-the-police dirtbag in Southern Cal football history. and nobody knows Southern Cal football like i do, except for Yo-Duh, Wolf and possibly CallGirl.

Rey and Chris are completely different. they both are great, but neither is better than the other. Rey is hits hard, but Chris has speed. Chris is talented, but Rey is aggressive.

For one thing, Galippo has never been arrested. So that's definitely a step up.

There is no replacing Maualuga.
Gallipo's interception at Ohio State was more impressive from a catch standpoint, but Rey's play with his feet after the catch is what makes his play better. That play also turned the lights out on the Scarlet and Grey.
The idea was to get better at the position and I think USC has done just that.
