Whatever else Pete Carroll does at USC, one thing that stands out is a 15-2 record against Notre Dame and UCLA. That alone ensures a place in the hearts of alumni.

if charlie had a record half as good as that against SC and Michigan, he'd be given a lifetime contract (although what he currently has is close). Here's hoping that last week's close game gives him more time at the helm and in charge next year for his annual beatdown against SC.
Does anyone remember that in Carroll's second year, when he beat both ND and fucla in the same season, that had not happened in 20 years!!

Uh, how about 34-1 vs. non-conference opponents since the loss to K-State?

I think we can all agree that we are ridiculously spoiled with Pete Carroll. I remember losing year after year after year (was it 11 in a row?) to the fighting Lou Holtz's and then losing a ton in a row to Fucla after that.
Whatever happens, I don't want to go back to those days!
Viva la Pete!

Beating UCLA and Notre Dame just isn't that hard anymore. I DO NOT want to go back to those days of losing every year to those teams, but that is also not going to be the only thing Mr. Carroll should be judged by. I think if he loses to Oregon State again though I might completely lose my mind.

Not this one.
Winning championships is all that matters. Not defeating your "rivals". In todays BCS world, you pretty much need to win every game to have a shot at the title. So defeating rivals is essentially built in.
However, Id take a championship season with losses to both UCLA and ND (not likely) over yet another 2nd place finish with wins over the Irish and Bruins.

USC'89..........Question? What do you expect from USC? A BcS title every year? I would like a BcS title every year, but it's unrealistic to expect this. In this flawed system of the BcS an undefeated season is the only way to insure getting to the BCS title game (don't tell Auburn this). SC has done this twice with one victory and one loss in the title game. In the last 8 years how many undefeated teams in the regular season have there been from major conferences? Not many. Sure I'm disappointed about some games (Texas, Stanford, Oregon St, Washington) but I'm not disappointed in SC or Carroll. I do think the next 2 years with Barkley will be telling for Carroll's legacy. If he can get another BcS title and a Heisman for Barkley before Barkley leaves for the NFL I'd be really happy.

There are some on this board who do not believe USC'89 really went to USC at all.
