Win Forever
Always Compete

Mustain said he still thinks transferring to USC was a good decision because it meant "I wasn't (at Arkansas). I haven't played the way I'd want, but I feel it was a positive move."

Way to look at the big picture, Mitch

Typical smoke and mirrors from Cheatey Petey all to paint this fictitious picture of how the "compete always" mantra is so engrained in the culture there. Ask Mark Sanchez how much Pete really cares about him. Just not worth the risk in playing with Pete...who knows what his agenda is.

Oh, and then there is the NCAA investigation still looming around the program.

These players and their families deserve more.

It might be easy to rip Pete in regards to Mark Sanchez, but before any one takes shots at Pete, you may want to learn that Pete has been in contact with Mark (by way of Sanchez calling Pete). And you ask why? Because Mark has been asking Pete (and others) about his performance/ his current play on the big stage. Don't believe it, then go out to Dan Patrick and listen to Pete's conversation. So before you step in to the fire pit, make sure that fire is out, otherwise you'll come out looking like a "FUCLA FOOL". Fight On!

Rodney, I'm glad you have made it your personal goal to be the player/family activist at USC. Your true passion for this issue is evident in the number of times you post this exact sentence. If only other underrepresented groups like mids 20s alumni, the band or even DPS has such support, USC would be a better place.

Keep fighting the good fight!

Yes RG, you are correct once again, they and their families deserve more......they should go to ucla. LOL

Spoken like a true UCLA grad, living on entitlements. BTW, Don't you think I DESERVE some more fries with my burger, Rodney. Keep the change for the penny jar. The laughs are worth it.

The mens' basketball coach is Kevin O'Neill. Why is Rodney still here?

If you listen very carefully, you can actually hear Bates whispering into Pete’s ear when he falls asleep each night, ”it’s all Aaron Corp’s fault, not mine, It’s all Aaron Corp’s fault not mine….”

I don't understand. If you are not good enough you shouldn't expect to play. A lot of people make fun of the "always compete" philosophy, but do you really think Pete isn't putting the best players out there? If Corp is the best QB on the team he should start, if Gable is the best RB on the team he should start, but they aren't. Let's save the complaining when Pete stops playing the best guy at each position.

TiO, see Vidal Hazleton last season. The best players don't always play.

Gee Coach Ego. You take the kids starting job away after he gets hurt. Then you don't prepare him for the UDub game, stringing him along until the game starts as he waits to see if he will actually play. You don't game plan for his talent and then you toss him under the bus and run him over, back up, and run him over again.

Aaron, transfer now, get away from this control freak.

If only it were that simple trojaninoregon, it must be nice to live in your safe little world… (and obamacare is gonna save us money with no tax increase AND give great quality care, just like Cuba!!!)

If you think politics don’t play a ridiculous role and the best guys always play, you’re a fool. Go crack open a VHS of ‘Rudy’ and stay home with yourself again this weekend…

always compete???

compete for what??? a backup spot??? a slim chance for mop-up???

4&5 star recruits should go play for teams like oregon where they can play and still win lots of games

there is nothing noble about being a 5 star bench warmer

compete just to make the travel squad ???

that stuff is for walk-ons

It is funny that they aren't playing the best players but they still have the best record over the past decade. If they had played the best players they probably would have never lost a single game. realityUSCcheck you are the one who needs to get a life and I can actually proudly say I have never seen Rudy. Well back to my "safe little world".

classic post by oregon111 - I'm not sure if I've ever disagreed with anyone more on this blog including wolf (yes that bad).

let me get this straight, If I'm a 5 star recruit and I've been the best player everywhere I've been, you are advocating that I should take stock and try to find school where I can win more games than I lose and be sure that I can get some good PT (fill in blank with one of several other Pac10 schools). Or I can go to a school where I may have to fight for a position on the field, but I will dominate my conference year in year out (beating down those very middling teams populated with players that share your mentality), have a reasonably good shot at a NC in my four years, improve significantly over time playing against some of the best college football players everyday at practice, and if I'm really good be in the running for an individual national award (lombardi, heisman etc) and have a great shot at the NFL. are you kidding me? if you have to even weigh the choice, then you'll never get it.

By your logic you should never take a job promotion since you'd be held to a higher standard and could risk getting fired.

Some people are comfortable with mediocrity and the security that it provides. Others strive for greatness with risk of failure. I frankly would rather have a 3 star recruit who thinks he's good, is pissed off that he's not ranked as a 5 star, and wants to fight for a position than have a 5 star recruit with no heart who is worried about playing time and not being able to make it in the system.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
