There was not really an explanation given for how USC allowed a player to go completely uncovered on the fake field goal in the first half that led to Notre Dame's first touchdown.
Pete Carroll said he wondered if the player actually went to the huddle as required before the snap. He also said game films probably would not show the incident to determine it.
But shouldn't a coach have noticed it and yelled or called a timeout?

According to Darrell Rideaux, the job of counting the number of players on a field goal would lie with the end rusher or the safety. So Taylor Mays may have dropped the ball on that play.

USC was caught with its pants down on the fake FG, especially because USC ran the identical play against UW in 2006 (Michael McDonald to Steve Smith).

And don't forget that we got caught on a VERY similar play versus Cal (only the throw was high and the Cal player caught it out of bounds)

Special team's coach Schneider is worthless. Need someone else to snap on punts. Nada yardage on punt returns. The one reverse on a kickoff was fumbled which could have been disastrous . Kicking out of bounds from the tee puts the ball at the forty which seems way too harsh a penalty. One decent kickoff return by Gable got to the 32 yd. line, what a surprise. The blocked PAT was a real plus keeping the score at a seven integral especially in the closing seconds at game's end. Does ND go for two if they scored on the last drive or force OT?

hell maybe there was 12 players on the field and the shotty pac-10 refs didn't catch it. Didn't I see charley giving those same refs a package before the game at the bust a gut burger.

It doesn't take a special teams coach for kids to count to 11. If Mays can't count that high, replace him.
