Tailback Talk
Interesting that the tailback-by-committee rotation plan, criticized by so many, suddenly got dumped last weekend. It was refreshing to see two tailbacks flourish with each getting at least 11 carries.
Of course it does not bode well for C.J. Gable, who expected to play and suddenly finds a two-back rotation when he is the third back.

Rumor is that CJ Gable and other players are really, really pissed off that Carroll and a couple other "un-named assistant coaches" are over promising things to recruits. A couple players were overheard after a practice saying that they feel like they have to put up a good "front" to the media and recruits so that their chances aren't hurt even more.
Its an unspoken thing that showing any wavering feelings about SC is the first way to get yourself deep down the player roster...just ask Mitch Mustain. It really is sad - these players and their families deserve more.
Nice Rodney.
Spoken like a true baby bRuin.
The motto is "compete", not "come and you'll play". Sounds like Rodney's story is FULL of facts.
In real news, the tailback rotation of two is a good thing. I hope it sticks.
Sorry this is competition not communism. Only the best 11 players will play. And I seriously doubt you hang out with the players after practice and are keen to all these "rumors". But hey it's the internet, you can say whatever you want!
Rumor has it, college football coaches tell recruits that they will play if they come to their school. SHOCKING!!!!
CJ has been trying to transfer out of the program since he was a freshman. He's known his place for a long time now.
It's not his ability that's keeping him off the field it's his attitude.
This is competition not communism. Oh, jeepers, how relevant is that as a response? Sounds like political mumble-jumble.
Competition, in the pure free model, is open and fair.
Maybe what is really being stated as a "rumor" is that some elements of the fabled SC competition, this year, is not truly of the pure free model variety.
Can anyone say, allege, or share rumors that are negative about USC without being attacked by "true believers" types? One thing is to dispute the validity of the rumors. But it's another to get insulting.
Given the animosity on this blog, I'm surprised so many people care to contribute. It's a burn out to keep reading such mean-spirited comments.
For being an SC blog, I find myself surprised by the lack of reasoned discourse.
This just in, NCAA has ruled that score will not be kept anymore and every player must get in the game....
also everyone will get a trophy...
Augustine..that is why about 90% of the posters err losers on this blog are just a bunch of spoiled ungreatful whiners that do not realize what a fabulous team they have to appreciate. Had there been a blog of this nature back in the tough years, these jerkoffs wouldn't have even bothered to login.
Bottom line, PC and his coaching staff know whom they want to play where and when! That is for the most part determined by competition on the practice field! They try to preserve redshirts when they can but also do not want to weaken the team to do that. When an athlete comes into PC's program they understand that they get to compete and if they can make their mark in the eyes of the coaches, they will get on the field, if not, then that's just life in a competitive environment. There is no such thing as making things fair and wonderful. Pete Carrol's successes and longevity in his job are determined by his results on the field..I'd say that he's doing his job rather well wouldn't you?
Oh, and by the way, play or not, the kids still get that damned great scholorship which turns into a tremendous collegiate degree, pride and future opportunities galore and a chance for a really great and prosperous life!
