The thought used to be that it didn't matter who couldn't play in a particular game because the next guy down the depth chart would be plugged in that slot and the team wouldn't skip a beat, but this season that doesn't seem to be the case as the depth of talent is not there. Do you think the changes in the coaching staff in recent years have effected recruiting? ...... not from the standpoint of getting good kids to come to SC, but that the new coaches aren't as adept at evaluating the high school talent to pick the kids who can continue to develop into players of the caliber that is expected at SC? Which O-coordinator/QB coach evaluated and selected Corp and Mustain and Booty?

A: I agree with your theory up until the very end. Booty was the highest rated junior QB in the country and everyone wanted him. Mustain was the Gatorade player of the year. Everyone wanted him. By the time he finished his senior season, Corp was wanted by a lot of schools. So I think your theory works better at some other positions, frankly.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
