Questions here about USC's bowl prospects.

Q: Ryan said:
Scott,

What is your bowl projection for USC and who would they play?

A: Right now I see USC in the Holiday Bowl. Mainly because I don't see a BCS bowl taking USC right now from a financial standpoint. The Fiesta Bowl's never been interested in USC in the past. I don't think the Orange Bowl would take USC again because the last time it was against Iowa, who brought 45,000-50,000 fans, which made the opponent's attendance less relevant. If USC finishes with two losses, it would be great to see it play in a BCS game, but as of today, I don't see it.

Scott, I see your point about the Fiesta Bowl, but if we straighten up, fly right, and win out, how about the Orange Bowl like we did at the end of the 2002 season? Thanks.

A: My answer above pretty much addresses this too. If the Orange Bowl can take Penn State or USC, for example, they will go with Penn State, who is a lot closer and brings a lot more fans. They are a worse team, but that doesn't matter to the bowl types.

Didn't the Fiesta Bowl take Boise State? There are more USC fans than people in the whole state of Idaho.

Let's hope it's an issue. And I get that other teams may travel better, but TV still has something to say and I have to believe that Fox would love a 10-2 SC against anyone.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
