Congressional Backlash?
How much political heat would the BCS face if a three-loss USC team was selected over a Boise State or a Cincinnati for a BCS bowl game?

About Inside USC
Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC
graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for
the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet
message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this
moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in
antagonizing the "Internet geeks."

Isn't Cincinnati an automatic BCS team if they win out and take the Big East?
I doubt we have to worry about that...
I'd obviously love to see USC in the bcs, but that would be a crime to leave those teams out.
BCS has nothing to worry about! FUSC is Vegas bound! Vegas Baby, Vegas!! LMAO!
i would laugh like hell
boise st consitantly only schedules 1 tough game a year and spends the previous 8 months preparing for it
then they spend the rest of the season playing teams like 'strawberry picker community college' and cry that they dont get any respect
if boise st were to trade places w/ wa st and play a pac10 schedule, they would have a confrence record of 5-4 on average, or 6-3 for a good year for them
well if USC finishes in the Top 14 of the BCS standings they qualify as an at-large team. it would take a miracle for USC to be BCS bowl bound, but all things are possible!
Thank God the government will have something to say about the BCS. Since they've achieved universal health care, shut down Gitmo and brought all the soldiers home from overseas, they've had nothing to do.
It is more likely to be struck by a meteor than to have SC go to a BCS bowl game this year.
Pretty funny that oregon111 seems to avoid taking Boise St. seriously, since that's exactly what the Ducks did, too.
The problem is no top teams will schedule boise state, oregon fan. Whenever they do they lose. Whose fault is that? I agree they should be in the Pac 10, but I hardly think they'd go 5-4.
The SEC would love for their 2nd place team to play USC in the Sugar Bowl THIS YEAR.......they would likely win and could spend the next decade bragging about it.
Not true, Barko. TCU plays tough BCS OOC away every season. This year, they played Clemson and UVA. In prior seasons, they have played STanford, Texas, Tx TEch and OU. In future seasons, they play LSU and Arkansas. TCU seeks out tough games and deserves respect.
Boise St could play tougher games if they tried. They are simply afraid to play away from the smurf turf.
Let USC beat fUCLA and Arizona before we entertain pipe-dreams about a BCS bowl. But since we're on the topic... ;-)
USC would need a miracle to make a BCS bowl. As noted above, USC needs to climb to at least 14 in the final BCS poll. Certain bowls are free to pick from various at-large teams. In theory, a bowl could select USC over Cin or Boise St, but I doubt it given the W-L disparity.
Assume a Fla/Ala v. Texas BCS Championship game. There are eight other slots. Four remaining conference champs, and four at-large teams.
The Rose Bowl automatically gets the Pac-10/Big Ten Champs, while the Orange Bowl gets the ACC Champ. That leaves five spots. One of which goes to the Big East Champ, who is not tied to a specific Bowl. Another spot goes to the highest non-BCS champ if they are in the top 12 (TCU currently).
The Sugar Bowl will pick first to replace the SEC Champ. (It will take Fla/Ala loser - 1st at-large team) The Fiesta picks next as a replacement for Texas. (It could take Oklahoma St to replace Big-12 Champ, or perhaps TCU - 2nd at-large team)
After that, there are 3 slots left (Fiesta, Sugar, Orange). The Big East Champ can be picked anywhere from 1 to 3 by the remaining bowls (if not already selected by Sugar or Fiesta above). The remaining two slots are at-large berths. If TCU has not been picked by the Fiesta, it will get one of the at-large berths. That leaves one at-large berth.
There needs to be a ton of upsets for USC to have a chance, and this has not been the season of upsets....or easy victories for USC.
Typical Wolf. There is no way SC goes to a BcS Bowl game this year. They don't deserve to, and they won't.
This is a non question because it would never happen. SC doesn't deserve to play and they won't.
In defense of Boise State:
According to ESPN the Broncos have been turned down by about ten BCS schools to have Boise State come to them for just one 2011 game - no second game on the smurf turf required.
They didn't name schools in the article but did mention that Michigan, Oklahoma, Arizona Texas A&M, Alabama, Texas and Oklahoma State all have open dates that year.
lets do a boise/pac10 mockup...
first of all, most conf games start AFTER the 3 pre season/non conf games, so keep that in mind because teams sometimes need a few games to work out the bugs
the theory is boise takes wa st's spot due to ineptitude in the paloose - scheduled at random while i was drinking a beer
USC vs BS usc wins
UCLA vs BS boise wins
WA vs BS boise wins
AZ vs BS pick
OR ST vs BS pick
AZ ST vs BS boise wins
OR vs BS pick
STAN vs BS stan wins
CAL vs BS pick
so in this random mockup, usc plays them before the implosion, and oregon plays them after they hit stride, and cal goes back to normal
assume the 'picks' are split: boise st goes 5/4
hardly the stuff of BCS legends
ill take them seriously when they start playing more than one real game per season
1 more thought...
what if ucla beats tennessee and wins out playing boise st's schedule?
would anyone besides charlie bucket be impressed?
I was about to rip you for having BSU/Oregon as a pick, but after reading your explanation and follow up, it makes sense. Although I think Boise is better than people give them credit for, they haven't proved that they can win against top teams on a regular basis. In fact, their bowl record is spotty at best. (0-2 vs. East Carolina and TCU the past two years)
It's funny that fUCLA beat Tennessee and K-State - and the Fighting Kiffins gave Florida and Bama all they could handle. Plus, K-State might play in the Big XII championship. If not for a little luck against Washington, fUCLA might be looking at a 4-8 season with a single win against hapless WSU.
I really hope we can go out and eviscerate New-Weasel next Saturday. Any kind of close game, or God-forbid loss, will not be shrugged off as easily as those beatdowns to UO and Stanford.
FIGHT ON!
good insight sureshot,
you can be sure that the weasel is licking his chops - hoping to pounce on a down usc team
