We asked USC coach Pete Carroll if he still thinks Matt Barkley is playing as well this season as any quarterback he ever coached.

Matt Barkley is the future of Bruin Football. Thank goodness he arrived in South Central to save the day.

nice work, wolf. as I predicted, Chetey is far too stubborn to admit his coo-coo comment was wrong, or even to give in the slightest bit and say something like, "well i wouldn't say the BEST, the kid is just a freshman"...but nooo. man is he one stubborn mule. but i guess that goes hand in hand with having a chronic Caesar Complex.

Did Pete Carroll coach Peyton friken Manning here at USC? NO.

Anybody remember what Carson Palmer looked like before he transformed into a Heisman candidate?

Anybody remember that Mark Sanchez threw a pick to lose the game at Oregon in 2007? Or a pick to lose the game at Oregon State in 2008? Or several picks against ASU at home in the Coliseum. Yeah, back when we had a defense we could rely on to win games.

Is Barkley playing like any other QB Pete Carroll has coached since he arrived in 2001? Yeah, sometimes. Have you seen some of the passes he HAS completed? Even some under pressure have been pretty outstanding. One pass he made to TE Anthony McCoy at Notre Dame under pressure was incredible; an NFL throw.

Does Matt Barkley have the potential to be Carroll's best QB at USC thus far?

Certainly.

Even if he wins the Heisman Trophy in 2 years, Wolf will say "With this many INTs he won the Heisman?"
But that's okay, apparently he's just doing his "job."

Ps. Brett Favre, with his numerous NFL records and ability to make incredible plays, also leads the NFL in INTs. But of course, let's not compare young Matt Barkley to Favre just yet.

hey charlie, go fuck yourself, don't ever disrespect pete like that again. It's funny how all these USC "fans" are now turning their backs on pete. Actually it's not funny it's pathetic. Pete's answer is 100 percent correct, the defense has been awful and when playing from behind as often as we have lately your offense is gonna have to throw the ball a lot more and that leads to...picks. No he's not perfect he's 19 years old, but he has looked far better than anyone else to come through this program as a freshman. He put us back into position to at least be competitive against stanford at 21-28 near the end of the 3rd. The defense just blows. Hate on Pete for that chum bucket not his "caesar complex," god you make me sick.

The SUCLA losers who post here are full of that typical bruin hubris and impunity. They're great ambassadors for the bruins who are actually fair-minded and don't rub the Trojans' noses in every defeat SC suffers.

They put down SC's icon Pete Carroll, talk about how SC is located in South Central and refer to USC as Southern Cal, all for the specific purpose of getting a rise out of the Trojan faithful.

Wolf does not censor, which I support, so the SUCLA no-counts are here to stay. Fine. Don't pay them any mind, that is what they are craving. Indeed, we probably should feel sorry for them that they feel such a compulsion to try to hurt others' feelings as a means of bolstering their own.

geez Louise! if you Branch Dividians would stop guzzling Kool-Aid for a moment, you would realize all i did was suggest Chetey was very stubborn (which he is by the way). from the rabid response, you would think i pushed Mother Theresa underneath a subway car.

i am a helper by nature. i am trying to help you miserable Southern Cal fans understand your team better. and by doing so, i think we are all enriched. but i can't help unless you let me. so please let me help.

That is the single stupidest comment that PC has ever made. MB7 should be learning from the sidelines, not on the job. Mitch Mustain might be the next Matt Cassel, but we'll never know. PC has sacrificed this season to develop Barkley. But, both Sanchez and JDB developed just fine from the sidelines. PC your stubbornness has backfired on the team. And, they can tell. It shows to everyone watching.

Are Trojan fans just ignoring the 2nd half of the last 5 games? What is Bates talking about when he says Barkley "puts us in a position to win." I'd like to see him mention some 2nd half plays over the past month to back that up. At his best, he threw harmless incompletions. In fact, his play kept ND, Oregon St. and ASU in the games with overthrown passes and picks.

Did he really put USC in a position to win at home against Stanford? At Oregon? The Stanford 2nd half effort alone makes Corp's miscues at Washington look harmless. 3 straight picks. Struggling?

While he is a freshman, he will be a slow immobile Sophmore next year that defenses will eagerly target. That obvious choking thing also dogged him in high school where he never won much of anything besides the hype award. Wait till next year for more of the same.

It seems that no matter how badly he plays, blame will always go elsewhere and USC coaches will scratch their heads trying to figure out why their strong armed phenom can not make plays when it matters. Any decent qb would be leading the Trojans to the BCS championship. Great O line, protection, running backs, and better wide receivers than anyone in the Pac 10, including Oregon and Stanford.

Better than anyone else - how about the worst ever!
