Rivalry Buzz

There still is not quite the energy you would associate with a typical USC-UCLA week. Perhaps it is because neither team is having a great season. Or it's still early in the week. But as I've mentioned, the feeling after the game will be magnified 100 times if USC loses because it is assumed the Trojans are the dominant team with Pete Carroll sporting an 8-1 record against his crosstown rivals.

...or perhaps its because it's Thanksgiving weekend and both schools are clearing out faster than the Staples Center after a Clipper game.

Tracy Pierson from scout.com just stated on a Premium Board that rumors are circling that the NCAA verdict on USC might be coming...and that USC is looking at some self administered sanctions...no postseason for Basketball for three years and a loss of scholarships in football. What are you hearing, Wolfie?

Thomas..........I agree. This is stupid to have the game this week. It was always the week before and the same week as the Ohio State/Michigan game. Usually both games determined the Rose Bowl matchup.

there's no excitement on SC's side because it's a no-win game. They are expected to win, so if they do, it's not a big deal, but if they lose, it's a HUGE blow to the program. The kind of game teams hate to play.

As an alum and a season ticket holder I'm still excited about this game. Sure, it's been a down year for SC thanks to its success over the years. But I just love to see SC beat up on the ruins. Having many friends who went to the westwood college to taunt after the game is priceless.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
