Spin Doctors, Part III
The BCS is going so overboard trying to spin everyone against a football playoff, that it might just get one accomplished. Here's their new website arguing against a playoff.
``This site is for the millions of us who love college football, but may have differing views on how a team earns a national championship,'' said Bill Hancock, Executive Director of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS). ``We have all the respect in the world for those who prefer a different arrangement; we just want fans to understand that a playoff is a lot easier on paper than it is in the real world. How many teams would play? How would the teams be selected? Where would the games be played? When? We'll explore all these questions and more on this site.''

Sounds like the BCS Boys are feeling the heat. I'm sure they didn't feel like they needed to make a statement like this 5 years ago.
This guy Hancock is a joke. If anyone has heard him speak, you might agree that he is the most transparent, side-stepping executive you've ever heard. He's even more transparent than you Wolfie. I'm convinced that this guy will bring the current BCS format to an end because he is a very poor spokesperson and he infuriates almost everyone who listens to his words. He exactly the type of person that playoff proponents would wnat to see run the BCS clan
Agree with you on this one Scott. Did they really think that this pathetic attempt to sway public opinion would work? It makes me want to actively do everything I can to support a playoff. A playoff system might create a slight disincentive for the SEC and Big 12 powerhouses to schedule mid-season creampuffs and could give us a few more in-season high quality out of conference games (in addition to the obvious - allowing the best team in the country to win it on the field).

thier website - did you SEE this on the right hand side?...
" If BCS Not Completely Broken, Don't Fix It "
why do you think they had to add the word 'completely'?
could it be because even they know BCS is crap?
here is how i would do it...
bowl season goes from mid dec to 2nd week of jan anyway
just plug the playoffs in that time frame and make the real championship game the last college game of season
and... forgot the year, but ducks should have played miami in NC (2001?) that was before the aweful detroit fans sucked the life out of joey's career - loser fans in a loser town
Quack, Quack, Quack...
All of these rhetorical questions the BCS guru posed on his website were the same ones they had to answer when they created the BCS-mess in the first place. His sidestepping responses, particularly comparing potential results to NFL results when teams with not the best regular season records have won or almost won the Super Bowl, are just the point: The team would win after a legitimate playoff where the best team has to step it up each week to progress to the final. Like most sports, all bets are off once you reach the playoffs, and the past is forgotten. The slate is wiped clean. Your prior record means nothing. Your opponent is just as good as you are, maybe better. If you cannot deliver on that day, then you are out. That is the point of a playoff. Unfortunately USC v LSU a few years back never happened, and never had a chance due to the BCS gurus, and many other worthy match-ups never had a chance to happen. Time to give all worthy programs a shot at the big prize, and cinderella a chance to go to the ball, even.
